So sorry, it is so disappointing and so sad for the mare as well as yourself. One of my mares did the same two years ago, but she went on to foal last year with no problems and is a month off foaling this year.

Im sure she will be fine, what meds is she on?
When my mare aborted her foal at 9 months, all she had was the jab to help her clean everything out and then antibiotics, she was perfectly fine, unlike me who slept in her stable the night after it happened as I was terrified something bad was going to happen to the mare, but she was fine, wasnt stressed or upset, just went back to normal and has gone on to give him two healthy fillies with no problems during the births.

i have lost 3 late foals now ,its never easy ,its usually something and nothiing ,or sometimes the ehv 1 or 4 virus causes speradic abortion ,but the mares usually do fine after and the next foal is usually ok ,,i hope it hasnt put you off trying again

After reading all the posts (thank you guys) and talking to several breeders we have decided the best thing is to try again, so she will now have a month off to recover fully and then off to stud again

My friends mare aborted at 9 months on friday, the mare held her cleansings till yesterday we spent all morning holding drips up etc while vet tried her best, she was a complete pin cushion and very very sick. we ended up taking her to halifax to have it removed as she was deteriorating. Its soo sad, the foal was very small for 9 months so i think it was natures way. It just didnt go so well for the mare. Sorry for everyones losses xxx
