I am looking at putting my mare into foal and am unsure of stallion to choose. My mare is a thoroughbred cross Irish Draught and has good breeding and proven talent as an event horse. (struggles with concentration sometimes to excel at dressage phase). I am in the fortunate position to keep the foal afterwards for myself and therefore am not doing this to sell on. Years ago I was very impressed with the stallion Utah Van Erpekom, does anybody know if he or his offspring are standing at stud. Can anybody recommend anymore proven stallions in the jumping or eventing world? Thanks in advance

Look at those at Brendon Stud in Sussex. They have a lot of very nice useful stallions all doing the job well. I particularly like Warrior, Hamilton Tropics and El Thuder; too many to choose from.

If you are wanting to use a coloured stallion we have Rubicolor who currently has just over £300 winnings. Just graded with CHAPS(UK) and also approved with Weatherbys NTR. Has impressive breeding being by Rubicell and out of a Granatnik mare. Here he is: more details can be found at www.vagelloron-stud.co.uk

We stand our own Hannovarian stallion with an excellent trainable temperament which he has passed on to all of his stock so far, international jumping pedigree which includes Grannus and Didi and he himself has won BSJA money but has also shown and quite capable as a dressage horse if we had a jockey who was interested. Stock can be seen and covers naturally, registered and graded AES and Weatherby's

I would second Brendon Stud for jumping stallions with the talent to event - especially Caretino Glory (whose sire was a GP dressage horse) and El Thuder (grandsire Argentinus). Both horses are superb jumpers, blood enough to event but with super movement. Have had 2 by El Thuder and currently awaiting a grandchild of his now! Could have been more thrilled with them....both were BEF 1st Prems and Reserve high scores of day (foal and yearling) on as a jumper and one as an eventer.
