hi guys,
please could some of you shed some light on how i go about licenceing/grading a stallion? and the costs involved?
i have a 4yr old cremello colt that i would like to breed from this year and possibly put out at stud. im experienced in stud work but have never licenced my own stallion before. he is registered with the arab horse society.
thanks.

I don't know about arabs but for Bspa I down loaded a vetting form from there web site and arranged my vet to do 5* vetting. Once he'd passed that I booked him in for the grading day. Cost was around £500

To license a pure bred arab you send the relevant fee to get a licensing form from the AHS. You then need to get out the vet to complete the form and make sure the stallion passes all the requirements. I should think the same thing applies for a part bred arab. not sure how much it is now but guessing at £150 - £200. This is nothing to do with grading, which i know nothing about lol. Good luck hope you get him a license ok

speak to your society secretary, have relevant forms and a dna testing kit sent from the society secretary and then you have to nominate a vet you have never used for the vetting, fill forms out send with your fee to the secretary, who will contact the vet and arrange a vetting, hope he passes, good luck, let us know. Any pics?

The AHS website isnt very helpful but found this www.arabhorsesociety.com/index.php?section=55I think where it says Breed Stock Entry part bred £75 applies to your boy and possibly another £50 if he needs DNA tested but in the back of my mind i dont think part bred stallions need to be DNA'd but i could be wrong as rules change over time Look forward to pics of him

You would also be able to put him forward for grading with the SPSS where he would be assessed in hand, loose and down a jumping lane, ridden as well if he is backed. The grading will be held at Heart Of England, Staffs on the 2nd October 2011 this is the link with all the information on it. www.sportpony.org.uk/grading.shtml
