Hi, I was talking to someone about the cards that people who compete at BSPS shows recieve called 'Best Rider Cards' which are obviously are given to the best rider in the class LOL Anyway, at the Summer Championships (I dont know if they hold them at the Winter Champs), there is a best rider class which you have to qualify for, but there are never many entries in them and tbh, are very dull... Me and my friend thought: why do they even bother with the best rider class? We had an idea that you should collect your best rider cards, then hand them in at the end of the year, and who-ever has the most for each kind of class (eg: Working Hunter, Show Pony, Mountain and Moorland, Show Hunter, Hacks...etc.) should recieve an award of some kind rather than having a class for the riders to be judged in. Let me know what you think...I know that some will think of this as pointless and a stupid idea but could you just take a minute to reply really quickly as it would be interesting to hear what you think xx

The first year that the BSPS ran the class at the Summer Champs 2003 there were 435 entries - not sure if they have gone down on a yearly basis since then but once again we would come to how many shows you went to if it was on points.

it is a good idea, but tbh i think most shows will still recieve the entry fees which will help pay towards judges and facilities, its a good idea but some people who have ponies that cant go in much else may find best rider classes a decent alternative as they get to compete at higher level shows without a certain "type" of pony ....if that makes sense x

my little girl won the lr best rider at the summer champs 2 yrs ago, i think there was about 30 in the class. She really enjoys getting best rider cards and it encourages little ones to try hard. The thing that gets me though is that they charge £28 to enter the class, which is sponsored and dont get any prize money. She won a coat, which might fit her when shes 12! I think this shold be a free to enter class, as its sponsored and they dont give prize money. We havent entered it again as i begrudge paying £28 when they dont give prize money and the prizes were unsuitable!

Winning the final has completely inspired my daughter who had it earmarked as the last class of her (very short!) career, so that she could concentrate on ballet. She was so encouraged and thrilled to win it that it has transformed her whole attitude to riding and she has worked really hard since. The Black Country Saddles coat she won is her pride and joy and she won her best rider qualification card first time out this year, and will definitely be back to try again.
