Sorry got to share this with you. My daughter turned 12 today. There was the usual pressies and cards- and the odd £20! I had my usual reflection on the amount of pain i was in this time 12 yrs ago and then something horrid happened. I was looking at her and then suddenly realised that i'm starting to be redundant. The little things that were everyday duties, like brushing hair and doing school tie are a thing of the past. My baby no longer needs me to perform such tasks. I think in todays society we all take too many things for granted, its not untill we are no longer needed to do them, that we truely appreciate just how special and precious they are.

She'll need you for a whole new set of reasons though. When boys and fashion and popularity become important and the hormones start kicking in, being a teenager is a tough time. In the meantime, I'd say enjoy the calm before the storm.

And I also think daughters grow up into friends and stay close, boy seem to head off into the world with hardly a backward glance. I'm better friends with my own mum now that I'm a parent myself, I think it's made me see all the little things I took for granted.

Reduntant! who are you kidding, even though Kids grow up still need you for money, cuddles, money, advice (not that they take it) money and more more money......you are never redundant, mine are 16 and 21 and need me as much now as they ever did.....the only downsize the bigger they get the more they seem to cost

Hey, my son is 22 and he texts me nite nite and tells me he loves me every night even when his mates are there. I see him more now he has moved out, he can still be a pain and you never stop worrying about them, but my boy always makes me proud. Honestly as they get older being a mum gets better more rewarding, Oh and by the way MORE EXPENSIVE
