Contact the National Foaling Bank. Can they be fostered at this age though or is it a matter of a companion/disciplinarian to teach it to be a properly socialised horse?

I would personally probably at this stage look for a companion rather than a foster mum. He should be eating comfortably at this point and need less one to one feeding of milk at this point from a human "mum" I hope everything goes well for them!!!!

Somebody please help, I have a 2month old colt that needs a surrogate mare. Sadly his mother died last night the vet tried everything he could but sadly her colon twisted leaving behind a gorgous chestnut colt  So now we are in urgent need of a surrogate mummy. Its my friends little colt thats been ophaned ive also posted a blog saying URGENT xx Good luck with him, we raised an orphan from 4 hours old last year and it was so satisfying and rewarding although quite trying at times. Im sure your friend will be absolutely fine with him especially as he has hopefully had a good start with mum. I was also very sorry to hear that your friend has lost her mare it is totally devasting as we well know and send all our love and good wishes to her. If she wanted to have a chat tell her she is more than welcome to get in touch!!!!!! |

yeah thanks everybody for your help. We were all devestated by the loss we all looked after her as we run a stud so me my mum and my friend all were really close to the mare  so it took a great impact on us all. We have another horse off her which is not a 1 year old so weve got 2 beautiful colts off her... The little colt who we were trying to find a foster mum to is now with a pony. We didnt think the pony would look after him like he is doing because he can be a little mean but hes taken him underhis wing we got him some milk and he wouldnt drink it from the teets we got him or from a bucked but he will eat the pellet form ones things are looking up.... ill pass on the message thank you.. My mare is due to have one in may soo ill keep u posted and ill let you know how it goes |

Well done with the milk pellets, im sure you have it all under control now and will move forward. Its devasting to loose a mare especially with such a young foal but im sure he will be fine!!!!
