If a vet told you after an internal exam, that the foal was in the birth canal, how soon would you expect foaling?

just asked at work and was told imminent, but in humans it can be anything up to 2 weeks even if baby is in birth canal. Does she look like she is ready x

I would imagine this would be within a week for sure. My mare is busting and was due last Tuesday, when i checked her on Saturday I was sure she wasnt ready to foal as I could really see the foal moving so i knew was not in the birth canal

I would ask the vet to clarify what he meant as it's not really a term I would assosciate with equines!
My interpretation would be that the foal had started to turn and position itself for foaling - this is usually within 24hrs of birth... but then I wouldn't expect to need an internal for pd at this stage!

they still move even though they are in the birth canal ,but it does depend on alot of different things when foaling will take place ,if you change routine it can upset them

THANKS ALL.
it wasnt my mare it was my friends. the vet had come out to look at her hock and ended up sticking his hand up her bum and saying the foal was in birth canal.
she casually mentioned it to me and i said as far as i knew, foal would be born very very soon.
i went over in the end and she didnt look ready, this was monday, but when i saw her again wednesday night i said she was ready and she had it about 8 hrs later.
it was a new one to me as well boothsdale
