hi Does anyone have a fussy golden retriever, my five month old puppy is driving me nuts, she is not underweight but never eats voraciously and often leaves a lot of her food despite using the manufacturers weight n measure guide, I have had goldens before and other breeds but never encountered this for so long, does anyone have any ideas?

Millie was like this, never really put enough weight on, picked at her food, till I had her spayed, made a different dog of her.

Thanku, she isn't underweight but just doesn't really seem very interested in her feeds, don't really want to spay her as intend to show her first and it changes the coat texture etc then breed from her.

Also we tried a lot of expensive 'quality' feeds for millie, she either turned her nose up completely or picked at it, she's now on bakers complete and cleans up every night, her tummy is spot on (no 'unpickupable' poos!) and the vet says she's an ideal weight!

Hi
I had a fussy Tibetan Terrier and tried tablets ( all natural ) from a company called Dor West they sell some quality products , cannot remember what they are called but you give them 30mins before feeding. They really worked

is she snacking during the day, you'll be surprized how much you'll could be giving her, up her walks cut down whats in her dish, give her lamb and rice, its better on the tum than other meats, see if this helps, some dogs just need alot in the wild they would go 3 to 5 days without food.

I have 4 very fussy eaters... 7 months to 15 years... :-)
firstly the amount they say give on the bag is always too much...
try feeding smaller amounts more often.. I presume at 4 months she is still on 2 feeds if not 3 a day..
try varying the feed a little... add some raw beef mince, or scrambled egg etc..
good luck.. the key is not to stress about it and let them get on with it... :-)

as long as she isnt underweight like you said, then i wouldnt worry she'l soon start eating more, if your worried she wont look ready for shows when she's six months, maybe think about supplements in her feed to give her everything else she needs

My flat coated retriever is like this! We tried every dried food possible!!! But it's like she just doesn't like none of them! So she now has pedigree dog tin food in gravy with bakers complete mixed in!!
Our d**nation and choc lab will eat whatever is put infront of them! And eats it soooo quickly!! The flat coat will just pick at it and takes her time! :L
