Not sure if I believe all the different 'colour' shampoos actually work better than an ordinary shampoo, but willing to give it a go!
Best shampoo for a completely black horse? He is already very shiny but would like him to be as shiny as he possibly can be!!
Thank you

I use exhibitors quic black. It's great at taking any red out caused by the sun. I also use it on our black lab who likes to sunbathe.

I've heard great things about the Wahl deep black? Does anybody know if you are able to use this on very dark brown/almost black horses? It's not going to do anything crazy to his coat is it? Lol. As ridiculous as this sounds!

no it will be fine, we buy ours in 5 litre containers for about £23, better than 7.99 for 500ml

I have always used the whiteningg shampoos and the chesnut shampoos etc, but are they really better than fairy liquid? Not sure ?

i'm too a fan of green fairy liquid for greys, its wonderful stuff! I've never had a black so can't really say but i always used to use Asda or wilkos Henna shampoo on a bay pony and the results were brilliant - brought out so much shine in the coat.

I think someone should wash their horse/pony in normal shampoo and take a photo. Then wash it in coloured shampoo and we should all decide whether there is a difference

When I get the time I will do a before and after using normal and coloured shampoo! It will be interesting to see if there's much difference!

My mother in law swears by a final rinse of vinegar for bays and blacks. It does work but you smell like a chippy!

I was buying expensive shampoo for one of my ponies and the woman behind the counter told me she swears by Tescos cheapest shampoo at 24p per bottle. I have bought this to try it and it seems fine but once had Supreme blue showring shampoo for my grey and nothing has ever been better than this so wonder if they do one for dark horses? It i sexpensive though for what it is
