Is anyone else's dog frightened of things in the sky? Sasha is terrified of planes, hang gliders, streetlights and most worryingly the moon She can be walking or playing frisbee quite happily then suddenly she'll spot something in the sky, drop to the floor and scurry away as fast as she can. While she is usually very good at coming back when you call her, in these situations blind panic seems to take over and she just runs. This is most worrying when she runs away from the moon because it is obviously dark everywhere and we can't always spot where she is! She will stop and lie down when I tell her to (thank god for the distance control lessons at dog training ) but she won't be happy til we get back home or to the car. She even cowes when she sees streetlights when we're driving. BTW she is a rescue dog. Anyone ideas how I can help her?

How very odd. We did have a border collie years ago that was terrified by hot air balloons, but I think that was more the noise of the burner than the fact it was in the sky, as she didn't like noises in general.
Hard to know her history, makes you think something has attacked her from above in the past, maybe a bird?

I seem to be having the same problem with my dog. The past 3 mornings straight he would not go outside in the morning, or when he did, he'd huddle and shiver on the front deck...wouldn't come off at all even to eat. The 2nd morning noticed him look at the moon then scurry back inside with his tail between his legs. Same again this morning. I had to physically drag him outside to do his business this morning and he's NOT a small dog. I am curious to see if this strange behaviour keeps going after the moon disappears. It's is very worrisome and very strange. Never happened before and I have no idea what has prompted this all of the sudden?!

Was just going to ask if she's a border collie? They do seem highly intelligent(and sometimes slightly neurotic) One of the vets at work had one which used to "see things" which no-one else could see and start snapping at the wall In every other way and 99.9999999999% of the time she was a perfectly happy normal dog
