Right, we're away on holiday in the caravan, and have just noticed that Millie has a tick on her nose. Now she's quite furry, and definitely isn't going to hold still whilst we do anything with it, I need suggestions in a hurry!
She sleeps on the bed with us in the caravan and there's no way I can sleep tonight if that thing is still attached to her!!!! I have limited resources, i.e. very blunt tweezers, I have vaseline and savlon, and that's about it! We've looked on the internet and it says we have to get underneath the thing and not squeeze it, which is easier said than done as it's buried in her fur. HELP?!

You can smother it in vaseline and it will suffocate and may drop off - it is better if you can remove it with the tweezers being extremely careful as you need to remove it's head from the skin not accidentally leave it behind as that can cause alot of trouble.
My best suggestion is to absolutely smother it in the vaseline in a massive blob all around / under it and see what happens if she won't stay still enough to perform tick surgery.
I had one a couple of years ago on my leg and panicked and pulled it off which stung a bit, but then I didn't check on the site and it turned into what they call a classic bulls eye target mark and I managed to get Lyme disease from the little sod to boot. My fault I hadn't removed it properly and it was in a somewhat inaccessible part of my anatomy to check on my own let's say!!
Good luck - horrid little things

I have just found this site - instructables.com/id/How-to-remove-a-tick/ which gives instructions on how to remove it making it dizzy and easier to remove - never tried it but could be worth a go?

if you pop in the local vets or a dog groomers they will remove it for you with a proper tick remover that twists it out dont do it with tweezers your pull the body off and leave the legs in or you may buy a tick remover from a pet shop or get a front line from your vets .that will kill it

On youtube it says to hold at the head area and squeeze and pull gently but firmly till it removes...obviously when you can get hold of her.

She's fine today, although OH and kids have taken her out for the day as I've come down with a cold, her annual vacc's are due when we get home so I'll ask them to check her over while she's there.

Update, just about to fetch millie back from the vets - I must have left some tick in her nose, as this morning she had a pea sized lump - apparently it's not an abscess, it's a solid lump, the vets are removing it and I'm about to find myself a hundred quid down!

just to addd - i know this thread is old.... never pull ticks off........ use a tick remover - little green hook thing - as you may have given her an infection (easily cleared up ) just the head burries deep into the skin and you jsut pull off the sack.. lesson learnt and im sure millie will be fine our dogs have had loads - 1 infection and they all were fine

Oops - was just about to reply before I spotted this post... Always use a twisting motion to release the head rather than pulling - they're buggers for leaving the heads in! Vasoline is least invasive and works by suffocating them; we have a fab little tool (like a micro-spoon with a tiny slot - hook it roung ticks head, twist then remove. Easy!) Hate it when you miss one, got home, then find a Baked Bean with legs marching across your kitchen!!!!!! YUK!

Apparently they screw themselves in in the first place rather than just going in straight, so need the opposite motion to get them out. They seem to be threaded the same way as a normal household DIY screw, so just think of unscrewing one of those to remove with the green hooky thing - wonderful gadget, every home should have one.
