I noticed yesterday that our 11 month old pup was dripping blood, had a look and she is in season. I really hadn't noticed anything sooner so I am wondering when it is likely that she started. Do b*tches start bleeding immediately or is it likely that she had started a few days earlier, and when in the cycle would she try and look for a mate?? We don't want to breed from her and want to keep her safe.

If you don't want to breed from her, do you plan to have her spayed? You can book her in 3 months after the first season, would recommend for health reasons.

Thankyou all for your comments - we will have her spayed in three months time, but what joy in the meantime keeping her indoors, hope my baby doesn't turn into the worst floozy ever!! I guess she can still go out for walks (on a lead) over the coming weeks until her season is over, and hopefully we wouldn't end up with the neighbourhood romeo's tagging along!!

I personally wouldn't take her out for walks. Even if the local romeos don't have hold of her, she will scent on every lamp post, gate post and street corner, and you will have all the romeos queuing up outside your gate!

Agreed but she will need her exercise. Why not take her in the car before walking her if you live near dogs??

get some anti mate spray or vics balsalm to hide the scent... no day is really safe as bit*hes can ovulate at different times.. but day 10 - 18 are the most likey... I still run mine when they are in season but make sure they are away from other dogs.. if a dog comes close, get them on the lead. the key is not to let her out of your sight whilst she is in season.. :-)
