Hi I had a sec C black mare briefly tied to my horse box yesterday at Derbyshire festival, she is good to be tied and only moves a bit when her companion leaves her, she shouts alot but that is it, I watched her un to known to her and she was fine. I returned to the box not long after to put an out door on her due to the rain and to collect a rug for my other pony in the ring. On arrival back she was still tied up but her glittery tail bag and fleece had been removed, they were screwed up on my ramp. I cannot see for the life of me how they got off, also they were not dirty if she had got them tangled they would be dirty etc. The pony had a very jazzy silver and pink all in one lycra on and maybe some body took a fancy to it! Now if some stranger would have attempted to take that off her they would of known about it. Was this coincidence or attempt theft? If the pony was in strife thankyou to who placed her fleece and tail bag on the ramp, I cannot see it as she had been in her stable the night before with that rug on and bag she lies down so its very suspicious. So if this is an attempt then all beware of your personal horse stuff at shows.

This seems definately dodgy to me. Who do some people think they are. I know times are hard but you do not touch peoples ponies or their stuff, its immoral.

We were at a show a few weeks back, our section d mare was tied at the back of our lorry, she just stands at the back of the wagon munching her hay with the occasional shout to her friends when they leave her. someone had untied her, and put her on the wagon and locked it up!! cannot believe some people..

Isn't there some rule about leaving horses tied up unattended at shows? I know when we've done County shows there's usually a bit in the schedule about it... May not be all shows though.
Sounds well dodgy about the rug, what a cheek!

I've had loads of stuff stolen at shows I was also at a show where a Landrover Discovery was stolen- the trailer that was attached to it was unhitched and just left there Have to say that all the shows we attend have a rule that no horse can be tied outside a box/trailer and left unattended

It was very busy, surely someone would have seen something!? Can't believe the cheek of some people though. Taking other peoples belongings and even ponies! Like that cob which was taken out of a lorry and put in a stable at Newark... It's horrible and scary to think what some people are capable of and WHY?!

Im sorry but id NEVER leave my pony unattended in this day and age, i know it can be hard at shows if your juggling two, and my mare would stand quietley next to the trailer all day [wont stand on it for 5 mins tho] you would feel awful if you got back and your pony was gone. I always lock the trailer to the car and alarm the car before going to a class, in between classes some one always stays with the ponies. Just ask people parked next to you to pony sit, i dont mind watching peoples horses if they ask.

Hi I did not read on the shedule that I could not tie outside, I know some do say, however the pony in question had another with her and when this occurs she is a danger to herself and for her safety it was safer to tie outside. I never leave long and leave a number to contact at front of waggon. You should not have to worry about stuff its disgusting what some people do.

Sorry but I would never leave a pony tied to a lorry or trailer if I was not there. Doesnt matter how sane the pony is they arent machines and you dont know what is going to happen. When things like this happen to your rug you have no idea how its happened.
Thefts are increasing on show fields, we are currently looking into having our CCTV cameras changed over to recordable ones.

This is horrifying!
Kind of understand if someone puts a horse back in its lorry if its in distress or may get a kick from someone elses horse or something along those lines. However, personally if it was me & a horse was in distress I would either stay with it myself or if I couldnt, ask someone else to - there are always people about at shows. Dont think I would put it in a lorry - you just never know, could have tripped up a ramp / on the ramp, be a bad loader & get even more upset or anything!!
As for the taking the rug off thing, do you think they might have removed it to see what its markings were, if it was stamped or something.
I am perhaps too suspicious & ask far too many questions, but its my job.

I think sometimes you might have to leave a horse tied up to the box alone at a show if you are on your own ...go to loo or enter. Surely if you see a horse is in distress and you had to remove a rug or anything else you would leave a note! and if a horse needed to go back in the horse box you would put an ask for the owners to return over the loud speakers

I went to watch an SJ show afew weeks ago and watched in horror when a lorry pulled up, unloaded 2 ponies, tied them up to the side of the box and then proceeded to buggar off. Next news the ponies turned 'bum to bum' and one kicked the other one pretty hard! Why not just leave them on the lorry where they are safe??? How many times have we seen loose horses/ponies running round when they've got free from being tied to a trailer/lorry. I know this is slightly off the thread but it is something which really annoys me! Rant over

Off subject as well but at Deeping show quite a few years ago there was three show jumpers tied to a lorry, no hay, long lead ropes [to hang them selves i guess?] no one about, they were left for hours, all you can do is express concerns to the organisiers. If i go to a show on my own i always ask some one parked next to me if they dont mind watching my pony while i enter etc.

personally would never leave my horse unattended at all, however in my opinion the preson who put your horse back on your wagon had absolutely no right, even if it was distressed they should've simply stood with it, surely its more dangerous to leave a horse in a wagon unattended than stood outside?!

That is just not nice! I know sometimes i have watched a horse next to us if its been misbhaving and i have unclipped a rope that was wrapped round its kneck but thats just preventing a major issue! I have had all my prize money stolen, we had 2 in the ring and the one that won in the championship and we locked the side door to our wagon up and put the ramp up, only to come back and find someone had put the ramp down to get into the living area and steal all my money out my purse and prize money!

I leave my mobile number attatched to the side of the horse box in case my horses are distressed anyone passing can phone me immediatly, some people go to shows and just watch who leaves there trailer and wagons unlocked, as soon as they go into a class they go and help themselves

I don't see the problem leaving horses tied to the wagon... They can just as easily injur themselves/get stolen ect in the Wagon as outsid of it .. Hell they can injur themselves at home... What do you do monitor them 24 hrs a day! Obviously I wouldn't leave any animal that I thought may have a bit of a wobble but it's a horse it can't be watched indefinitely. Surely no one at a show is leaving their horses for long periods of time?
I like the idea of leaving the mobile number.

I don't think they should be left unattended, either inside or outside a lorry/trailer - it's a different atmosphere than at home and even the quietest of ponies can be spooked by something unexpected. They are your responsibility while you are there, and we all know horses can be unpredictable, so there should be a capable person with them at all times.

Hi I do leave a mobile number in front of box, now pony in question is safer tied up to box where she can see she will happily much away and is not bothered when others are taken away from her, also she is never left for long. Now if she is at a show and travelled alone completely different, can be left in waggon but not when another comes with her. If you saw how she rears on the box partition etc you would tie outside if distant available and with safety clip.

My pet hate at shows is ponies left unattended tied upto wagons, if I had a pound for every accident that I have seen caused by this is I would be a very rich women, If I have to leave mine at all, (ie to go collect number ect) then they are left in the trailer with the doors locked, this is for thier safety, and security. If someone removed your horses rugs and left them on your ramp, then they were obviously not trying to steal them, so I would hazard a guess that she was somehow caught up in them and it was done for her own good, you wont know what happened as you were not there.
