Following the thread regarding riders from past decades...
what became of some of the lovely ponies/hacks/hunters/cobs etc when they retired from the ring?
Such as...
Royal Bronze Arden vol au vent of Creden Superted Waterford Coalport Ivanhoe Snailwell Charles Gem's Signet
....just for starters!

I suppose many that I mentioned would be (or they would be truly ancient by now!!). How old were they when they retired? What did they do when they left the show ring?
The lovely whp Wrigley Puccini has spent the past year pony clubbing with a little girl. I believe he is now back with his owner. I think he is in his early 20's.

I believe Broadgrove Serenade is owned and ridden by Henrietta Spencer. Think Chatterbox has retired to stud.

There's a good cob, called Waterford, owned by Elizabeth Bury and ridden by Steve Norris who qualified for HOYS 2006 - is this a different one?
I'm afraid I'm so old I can remember all the Pretty Polly offspring, Ardencaple prize-winners and such beautiful names as:-
Solway Master Bronze & Kavora Kismet and prefixes like Revel, Oakley, Bennochy and Catherston which I think are still going today.
You may be interested to hear that I was at a local show the other day and was taken with a very nice, but perhaps, elderly grey pony that was being shown by a lovely family. On asking what his name was I was told that they hadn't long had him, that he had been retired from the County circuit and his name was 'LEAMINGTON CLIQUOT'!!! He looked very well and happy and his new owners were besotted with him!!!

I remember seeing Tuffy & Leamington Clinquot at the BSPS champs a few years ago, they were a lovely pair together. I think Broadgrove Chatterbox has retired to stud, not too sure.

The Waterford I am referring to was a good WHP - think this dates back to early '80s though! Same era as Coalport. I can remember being there on one of the occasions when Holly of Spring took the sp champ. at HoYs. Another I remember winning at Wembley was a dark bay pony - think it was Bennochy Royal Ensign and I think Ruth Illsley rode him - that was a fabulous pony...but I am back to the 70's now!!!!

Take a look at www.romannostud.co.uk and click on the tab for mares (pony) you will find some of the most delightful pony mares who have now retired to stud. I know I would love to have a field full like that!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh yes loved sandpiper bay, i worked at Horse and Hound a while back and had great fun going back through all the old showing pictures i wld get lost in the library!! I think Looking Glass Light Fantastic was brought by Mrs? Rogers and was shown for a while not sure what happened to it after that. I always wonder about the geldings more as obviously a lot of the good mares go to be brood mares but u never know what happens tp the boys! :-(

Quest of Mend-i-c-k is competing in affiliated dressage with Laura Fry - i think they are competing at medium level. He is looking really well and is still owned by Pruno Robson.
