Hi, I wondered if anyone can help me. I have entered BSPS for the first time and I am confused regarding what is a Novice??? We are Lead Rein M&M and in the rules (I have read online) and it talks about 4, 5 and 6 year old poines (our pony is 9) so forgive me for sounding thick does it just go on age or is it like PUK where you have not to have won £10 in an open class... all these rules confuse me, it was bad enough trying to understand the schedule!!!

You denovice once you have won 3 BSPS open classes or been placed in the top 5 at HOYS or RIHS......

Thank you Sundayroast, we have never had the pleasure of being at HOYS of RIHS and we have only won 2 classes... This was very helpful, thanks again

BSPS novice rules - ponies 4 & 5 years old can win ANY number of Novice & Open classes & still remain a novice at the start of their 6 year old year (unless placed 1st to 5th at RIHS, HOYS or Olympia) Ponies 6 years old or over may then win 3 Open classes in the category before they are denoviced.

In BSPS Open classes, the 1st prize has to be £5.00 or more as well to count against your de-novicing.

lecfec - all BSPS summer classes MUST have a 1st prize of £5 to be a qualifying class so that is why the rules just refer to the age of pony & the number of wins.

I was thinking of the winter ones, when I phoned the BSPS office to check a ponies status she said that the winter classes don't have to give prize money, therefore a pony could have won some of these but they would not go against it for novice purposes. For example Rule 338 for Heritage novice first riddens it states 'that wins 3 Open, restricted open or Pretty Polly Heritage first ridden classes affiliated to the BSPS, where the 1st prize is £5.00 or over or placed 1st to 5th at RIHS or HOYS'
