Hi, I've got a border collie (a very active one too) and he has cut his pad on his front right paw. He hates vets so going there isn't in the options(It doesnt need stitches). For now I have put a sock over it to stop any dirt getting in it and Max also keeps licking it which is making it worse. Has anyone else got any suggestions? Emma

I spray stockholme tar when this happens to my dog, he doesnt lick it off and it heals pretty quick, i also spray it on him hot spots he gets. Vet told me it was ok to do

I'd take dog to vet.. how do you know it doesn't need stitched? My dog also hates vets, but she still has to go... I also take her in between visits and just walk round the waiting room doing some training.. this gives her something else to focus on and after about 20 laps she settles enough for me to get a seat... pal's dog had a cut paw that she thought didnt need stitched... vet thought otherwise and put 4 in... a sock itself isnt going to stop dirt getting in.... if it's that bad, it'll need a light dressing, then a boot of some kind for when you take dog out to stop it getting wet. Manuka honey as suggested above, or lavendar oil, or aloe vera gel are all natural healers. But not at the same time
