I personally don't think you will look out of place, as long as the hat is nice and neat etc You will never get marked down because you have a strap hat on...... and there is certainly nothing wrong with being safety conscious!

i'd go for it - safety first, its your life over the rosette. If you and your horse are the best in the class then a chinstrap won't change that. I personally think its about time that straps are made mandatory, stuff fashion! Good luck

Some County Shows you have to have a strap hat in horse classes. Show rules not society rules.

Whilst I trust my two horses to behave, some of the horses in classes I have seen I would never get on without a strapped hat, body protector and a hipflask of sloe gin first.
I think any judge that put someone down for having a strapped hat should be banned from judging for life. I wear a strapped hat as I can't afford to be off work or put a burden on my hubbie should I come off. I do occasionally wear a top hat but if I didn't have the sort of horses that I do, I would not and keep to a strapped hat.
Do whatever you feel best. I do make an effort to have my hair very neat and as I have a small head, my hat does not look too large.

No not at all, I would always wear a hat with straps when on board but do have a beagler for in hand but even in hand does not matter not sure if you mean ridden or inhand
