We have had a lovely young cat since January, she has fitted in well and is no problem. However we cannot get her to use the cat flap properly! We have it propped open all the time so she come and go as she pleases. We have tried shutting it and placing a ball/toy through to encourage her to go through and we have also physically pushed her head through but she is having none of it! If I leave it shut she just meows her head off at the door! Any tips on how to make our lovely but stubborn cat actually use the cat flap properly!! Thank you.

Have you tried using food to tempt her? I would place food on the opposite side of the open flap when she is actually properly hungry. If that hasn't worked I've no idea! Is the flap a generous sized one? And easy to open and not too high up?

We had a similar problem with one of our cats, and she wasn't motivated by food at all. She'd just sit infront of the cat flap looking hopeless. So we used to open it for her (wide to begin with, and then a little less every few days), when she was part way through, I'd gently let the flap back down on her back, so she got used to the plastic on her back. It took a couple of months, and even now she still prefers to go out through an open door, but she will go through the flap.
Good luck

Thank you for your advice and we will try food when she is really hungry and gradually letting it down and letting it touch her back. I was hoping on such a wet day she may of got the hint but no! I am trying now before its get to winter with the cat flap open it will be very drafty! It is a standard size one which has ample space for her to get through easily. Bless her she is so adorable and good with toilet needs, children and the dog, this is just the last hitch I hope we can sort out for her!!
