Ive had my new dog now for a few months and she is still pooping in the house and its getting worse. its not just in one place anymore she does it everywhere. i cannot think where to start on stopping her.
She gets let out 6am she has a poop outside has her breakfast then has a walk at 9, she is in the house then till 130 when my dad takes her out for a few hours with him but she never poops. I get home at 6 she comes to the horses often goes to the toilet on the way (we walk) she then has her tea. within half an hour though of being back in the house everytime we have been back we find a poo. (anytime of day)
The problem i have is we never catch her doing it. Im pulling my hair out as mum says she has to go if she carrys on we have had to remove one carpet already. Apart from her barking this is the only major problem i have and i cant stop her shes just getting worse. Shes a 16 month old chihuahua x.
Any ideas?

First thing.... Go to pets at home and get some Simple Solution... it's an odour remover, completely holistic )no chemicals) and treat all the area's dog has pooped in (scrub with flash, then liberally spray the SS on, (follow directions) leave to dry and hoover) It also removes the smell of pee/vomit and stains. Now buy some puppy pads (also available at pets at home) or put down a thick layer of newspaper and train dog to go on the pads/paper. when pup has gone on the paper/pads praise well.... when pup has the jist of that take the paper/pad outside and encourage pup to go there...praise well... also praise pup for going outside when pup does normally It could be that pup (yes a pup, only 16months old) isnt settled in your home yet and is still adjusting... how old was pup when you got her? How many homes has she had before you got her? Strange question I know - but friend has recently taken on a 10month old Husky x who is in his 7th home already The barking is probably related to the fact she's not settled yet and is wanting attention. You can also buy DAP plug in at Pets at home too. Any pics??

Thanks for info jaysmum . She was just 13 months old and had 2 homes before me. How do i train her to go on the pads when i dont catch her at it? this is where im struggling, she is so quick at it. She sleeps in a cage at night which in the day she is quite defensive of and does go in and sleep of her own accord but she hates it at night, as i know she has been allowed to sleep in bed with previous owners so she barks.

If you know when she will need to go (say in the evening after her dinner) either take her out to garden with a pad and encourage her to go on the pad, with a Good Girl in a happy voice, or have a treat/toy ready (obviously give her the treat, or play with the toy) she will associate the pad with good times... when she sees the pad in the house she may decide to go on it during the day.. leave several out in different places so she can choose the right spot and slowly decrease the amount of pads for her to use in the places she prefers (friend with malamute lived in a second floor flat, and left atleast two pads out for her during the day until it was time for her to be picked up for dog walker or dropped off til owner got home... meant that if she needed to go she could.... as she got older she was drier.... even now she's only 18months old but have since moved to a house with a garden) Sleeping.... could she have a bed in your room? this will take time but if she knows she's with you at night, then she will sleep in her own comfy bed. sure have her on the bed but make sure she knows when you say off..she's to get off and stay off. Does her crate have a blanket or one of these cage covers on it?? redecorate it.. make it her own comfy den rather than a cage for her to be in... it's her own space..she should feel comfortable in it.. if when she's in it, don't disturb her..... Think of it this way... she's alone for part or most of the day, in her crate... then she has to sleep in it at night.... that's a long time to be in it and very boring. Can you get her a Kong toy? fill it with... meat paste or primula cheese and some crushed biscuits or peanut butter... freeze over night.. give it to her before you leave for work.. it will give her hours of enjoyment trying to get the goodies out of it.

I dont have the dogs upstairs its a no no in our house although she doesnt seem to undertand that and still goes upstairs even when told its a no no.
She has her best friend our kitten (they love each other) and my other dog (12yr old lab)to play with in the day, her crate has her other bed in it her blanket her feed and water bowl and her toys she is very protective of all of that. shes not locked in her crate in the day she has free run of the kitchen and play room so she and the other animals have a play. i dont agree with them being in their cage longer than necessary, she only gets locked in at night as she scratches the doors and howls.
I cant give her food when the other dog is about as she is vicious and has caused him no end of damage including a ripped top lip and hes an old man. though they play happily any other time thats why food time is in her cage.
Ill try the garden thing as she has her spots where she goes to the toilet outside. she is unlike any dog i have had before, she can be happily running down the road and she just stops and poos, all other dogs ive had will find a spot, she just goes.
she is a cute with issues lol. but im trying my best to sort her, just struggling with this one

Ive tried everything this dog will not stop pooing in the house, she wont poo in her cage, so ill let her out and she will poo and wee outside, then she will come back in the house and before you know it theres a massive turd on the carpet. She was out 2 hours with mum yesterday, mum brought her back in the house and she pooed on the carpet. im pulling out my hair. some weeks shes fine and others she is rediculous. barr locking her in her cage all day i dont know what else to do.

We have just got a new puppy, Exactly what you have explained, she will go outside and poo and wee, come inside and wee. If she wee's we rub her nose in it and shes outside until she has stopped making a row! She is in a crate at night times, She never wee's or poos. she is starting to get better now, but i just make sure she goes out as many times as possible, and look for signs that she might be 'finding' a spot to go, and as soon as she does, she is out the door.

shes crafty though you will come into the kitchen from watching tv and she will have pooed on the carpet, she knows shes done wrong as she skulks off into her bed. yet she could have been out on the farm with me all evening and she still does it. Do you think it makes a difference what time i feed her. she gets fed at night?

The only way to find out is to try, Try feeding her a little earlyer. after she has been fed, put her outside leave her out there. tell her when she outside on the grass ' to go for a wee' or 'go to the toliet' they soon know what you mean. and as jays mum said... praise her when she does. and when she pee's indoors tell her shes naughty and lower your voice.

My mum isnt very accomodating with this dog ahe hates it, a litter tray is a no no ive already had the conversation and i have spoken to the doggy training centre and they said it would be difficult to sort away from home and i dont really have spare funds to be asking them to come round so ive been trying my best but she just wont learn, its not just that either she wont learn anything, she goes upstairs and gets rollocked sent back down to her cage or outside as soon as she is back in or free she back up stairs happens about 10 times a day.

**Guaranteed to work** If you can pen her into quite a small place, ideally by the door she usually goes out of to take a poo this should work. We usually pen them into a space say twice the size of their dog bed when not being supervised using babygates, fireguards, anything we can lay our hands on! (with dog bed in with the dog of course and ensuring no nasty draughts) Thus, the dog is in your domain, the house, but also won't want to poo or wee in their restricted space. DON'T put her in her cage because as you have previously said she becomes defensive and sees it as HER domain. After a while they simply housetrain themselves and we've never had any trouble doing this, usually takes about 10 days with an older dog, of course longer with a pup. We use this method for all our pups and dogs that we have, and NEVER the 'rub their nose in it' method that so many people recommend. Always works, too Worth a try!

Oh, and the barking? I'm afraid you'll just have to live with it for a while or try putting a teddy in with her roughly her own size and colour. Hope this helps!
