This year every pony has to pay a £10 levy for medical cover. it was £2 last year. If you do the sums and think there will be about 400 + ponies entered, then BSPS are getting £4000 (aprox) apparently word of mouth is that they pay St. johns £200 for the week.. hmmmmmm

I really doubt St Johns is £200 for the week! I ran a small 2 ring, 30 horse charity show last year and it cost just £100 plus to have 2 medics in attendance for one day and that was the best price I could get anywhere! A show like BSPS must have far more medics, far more days so I can see it adding up to £1000 for the week very easily if not more!!

I am only going on what I have been told.. I have no opinion at all...
if you require medics to cover, then the fees will be much higher. Certainly last year I didnt see one paramedic on site, but if what has been said is true, then I dont think it is value for money.

I think you will find that cover is per exhibitor not as you have interpreted it. I hope I have my facts right!

Hi All, I know the medics on site, Event Medic Services. They are a team of 6 (4 paramedics and 2 EMTs) who have all (or are) served with the NHS Ambulance service. They come with two first aid golf buggies to work around the rings, a 4x4 ambulance and a road ambulance. This is also their second year so were definatly on site last year.
From personal experience they are definatly worth having on site.

agreed.. paramedics are worth every penny.... Sorry... I have never seen them there so only believed it was St Johns.. I take this back..
I have had lengthy PM's from someone involved with the BSPS and although I can totally see the argument, I dont think the Society should profit from this cover. times are hard enough for every one right now
however... 900 stables...hmmmm..

The medics are there and have been living on site since first boxes arrived. I think their remuneration figures may be different to those quoted. I am relieved they are there, you never know when they may be needed. I think good cover is essential.

I havent been for several years but they have 24/7 cover for 4/5 days, in the past a couple of friends needed medical help overnight and it was available in the medical centre, also there is at least one doctor there. That is about £2 a day and given that most ponies have more than one person with them I don't think that is bad value.
I went to a small village riding club show on Saturday, it was £3 for the cover!!

I Have had to pay £10 & we're only going for one day not staying overnight either. Ok if we were there all week!! So don't moan if you are there for the duration as it is well worth it if you need them.

if we are there several days i don't mind, but have felt agrieved in the past when going one day for one class and teh medical cover means the enstry goes up by 33%! same for PUK, though i think that is a voluntary cover so you can send less (i think)
