I have used a swales for my heavyweight cob. Its a very strong bit, I used it for a full season afew years ago and now my cob respects and appreciates going in a double and goes fab. It may have been a coinsidence but after the season in the swales he sits up beautiful and gets alot of comments about his self carriage.
Loved it xx

My Section C mare adores her swales and goes very well in it. I dont use it because she is strong or naughty, but because after using several bits it was the one she most liked. She was a bit heavy on the forehand, but now goes in a lovely outline. I tend to use it less and less now as a lot of people/judges are said to disapprove of them, but I still use it at home from time to time for a tune up. I would say if you use the swales for the right reasons and dont use it harshly it can be very beneficial - and you will probably find after a while you can try something else.
