Sorry hun can't help with an alternative treatment, but just to warn you that if she's picked them up again you must treat your carpets, dog beds, anywhere she's been as they're probably living there and to kill the cycle you'll need to treat everything or she'll just keep picking them back up again. They can live off the dog for ages and then 'reactivate' when back in contact with dogs again. We moved into a house that had had a dog infested with fleas which were dormant in the carpet until my legs moved in - can't tell you how allergic I am to flea bites!
Good luck x

Recommend Nuvan Staykill for your soft furnishings, or as Haggismarmite says they'll just hop back on. In the meantime can you bath her in an insecticidal shampoo to get rid of them?
You can get the staykill from a vets or the kind of chemist that stocks flea/worm products for animals. In a yellow can, about £15 last time I bought any.

ooo i have found the coolest thing for fleas (i have a very simple mind sometimes !) its called a flea killer you plug it in and its a round plastic 'thing' that has very sticky paper in it and a lamp and the idea is the fleas are attracted to the light and the warmth and jump in and get stuck and die ! provides me with lots of entertainment counting how many i have killed each day. i have had it about a month now and all animals seam to have stopped scratching. i brought it from my local feed shop think it was £10 and comes with 5 sheets of sticky paper

This is the worst year I have ever had with fleas. I am front line spot on every 4 weeks. Spraying with front line spray, washing dogs in some very expensive insecticidal shampoo any using indorex in the house( which is very good)
Still have loads of fleas. Apparenty there is a new pill out called comfortis which guarantees to kill them but is not cheap
Am sick of the little bleeders :-(

Make sure you treat the cats at the same time as your floors and dog too pretty reckless as I'm pretty sure dog fleas don't survive on the cat but they can remain dormant on them in the same way they can on soft furnishings, so you have to blitz everything - rabbits etc.....
I'm scratching - eeewwww.

A lady with cats used to live in our house, and the cats had their own room- my bedroom! I also come up in big, itchy lumps. I usually spray my room twice a year, and haven't had one bite this year so it has worked! (Well, so far!)

Glad its not just us! we did the cats, the dog, the carpets, the bedding and both the cars three weeks ago, and my dog is back to biting at her legs and tummy already. We even resorted to bathing the old longhaired cat, much to his annoyance!!!

Get a flea comb and comb them out.. drown them in a glass of hand hot water (with a lid as they can jump from water) Even if you use a de-flea treatment you should still use the flea comb, just as you do with nit treatments on kid's hair.

Have frontlined the dog and the cat washed the beds on a 60 and sprayed the house. Its much better but still finding some. I have bought a flee comb did not find ant on the dog yesterday but found 4 on the cat. There was a kitten from next door coming in a lot so i have told the girls not to let him in as i don't know if its him bringing them in.

Flea's don't live constantly on the animal, but in your carpets and furnishings, pet beds etc.. please do comb the animals atleast once a day back of the neck down along the spine, and back end, is where you'll find them on the dog, under the chin on cats. I use Rug Patrol for the carpets.. very quick and smells lovely then just hoover up

Incidently - i don't de-flea my animals on a regular basis... unless they are all scratching (me too) then they get de-flea'd and wormed and flea combed. In ten years of cat ownership and 5 of dog ownership they've had fleas just three times

The problem will have been there all the time, you just didnt know it. Frontlining or Advocate, or whatever chemical you prefer... only kills the adult flea.... it doesn't kill the larvae, you need to remove the adult flea's to remove the problem.... and the only way to do that, is to use the comb (IMO) when my cats were kittens I couldn't use any chemical on them as they were so ill.... vet said "get them to 6months and you will be laughing" for a week I flea combed them twice a day, i removed 40 fleas off both of them on the first night I had them Kendra is allergic to flea bites, so I would know if there were fleas in the house. I am also allergic to the bites.

Frontlined the dog again last night and been combing her several times a day and still having a nightmare with flea's. The cat is fine its just the lab. OH is going to take her to work with him tomorrow so i can spray the house again. Going to speak to the vets next week when i get paid to see if they can give her something else to use as she is sore on her tummy.

I thought we were the only ones, thanks goodness its not just my dog!
Vet told me that houses with fitted carpets and central heating are nirvana for fleas, he also said that washing pet bedding at 60 is no good as the fleas can still survive, if pet bedding acan stand it then 90de gree wash and then a good rinse cycle wil see any of them off , treat all carpets, floors sofas, bed human and pet, and trea dogs and cats as well............... then repeat as necessary..................... this year has been a bumper year for dogs/cats with flea problems brought into surgery for treatments, conditions have been ideal damp and humind............... thankfully they should vanish once the colder weather comes in!

Ito have frontlined my dogs regulaly and cat but still scratching. i have used flea comb everyday and get 1 or 2 fleas of them., even tried conditioner then flea comb , still they came back, sprayed carpets and settees, then realised that they always go under the lalandi trees in garden and so do all neighbours cats, so i trimmed bottom branches about 4ft up they look awful but no fleas

Try frontline Combo or Effipro both are excellent for flea control also Nuvan Staykil and Acclaim for the house - would not recommend bathing in anything for fleas without first asking your vet as they could cause reactions and they are known for not working hope this helps

Tea Tree essential oil is very insecticidal. Will get rid of most insects including head lice in children & fleas. You can buy tea tree shampoos but read the ingredients on the label as many dont actually have much or any Tea Tree in them. Look for 'melaluca alternifolia' which is the latin name for the plant. If it says 'parfum' then that is what you have got - smell without substance. If the animal has any sort of skin itchiness then avoid shampoos containing sodium laueth sulphate / sulphide as these irritate skin but are a basic ingredient of most shampoos & shower gels.
You can put a few drops of tea tree oil into the shampoo that you have put into your hand to soap the dog, or put it into the rinsing water. You can put a few drops into a dish of warm water along with a drop of shampoo and dip in a brush and brush it through the coat.
Tea tree will deter insects as well as kill them. Tea Tree is Ok to use neat on the skin, but some people/ animals may be a bit allergic so patch test first.
Hope that helps

was asking my vet about the flea problem, this year has been worse than ever for them!
His advice deflea as normal, then spary house carpets soft furnishings etc with a flea spray, then wash all the dogs and cats bedding that can be washed at a temp a=fo60 degrees or above, anything less and you jsut get clean fleas!
If the dog needs to bethaed then 72 hours after applying friontline or whatever product you use, it is normaly to see a few fleas on them for a while but as the product you use will still be active it should still be killing them.
Under radiators, edges of carpets rugs under the sofa and riound dog beds are the places to spray , if laminate flooring then spray as normal and then a quick wipe with diluted tea tree should solve most problems, if you have to then get a flea bomb ................like a smoke bomb, clear room of all livestock fish dogs cats hamsters etc, then activate the bomb, thros into middle of room and close the door and stay out until you can go in again , open windows and let the room clear, clean room as normal, should see the end of any fleas, bugs etc!

Ive had one of the flea lamp thingys with the sticky paper, for a few weeks. I keep it in the tilly room where the dogs sleep at night, they are in the kennel in the daytime, i leave the window open so it gets cold and have found fleas stuck to it! The dogs seem less itchy now, think it will be fab for keeping the little beggers at bay once we have a flea free zone. So now off for spray for house, advocate from vets (gave up on fronline) and fingers xd. They are really worth a try and cost about 15 quid!
