something flat, plain, comfortable and easy to run in .... black, navy or brown, depending on the colour of your lead rein outfit ... shoes are easiest to run in (IMO) but boots if very wet and muddy

we have brown brogues with our brown m&m outfit, find the laces help to keep them on abit better than a slip on pair, and also wear dubarrys when the ground is muddy etc

I think you should hear the classic story of the shoe loss at bath&west,it is very funny and you can probably be garunteed a laugh. Here goes: "In 2001 we were competing with my lr show pony down at Bath&West,of course that year was horrendously muddy as we found out when we pulled in one friday night only to be towed on by a tractor and dumped in what was quickly named the Somme field. Anyway,we were in the lr show pony class the next morning and as we started our show, just going down the long side one of mum's shoes gets stuck in the mod and comes off,mum keeps going,on our change of rein, the 2nd shoe quickly becomes stuck and comes off,mum decides to keep going and we finish our rather good show considering,I,as a 5yr old,was in fits of giggles as was my sister at the ringside,we walk back into line, and the steward walks up to us and says to mu 'do you want your shoes back?' " Morale of the story, never wear slip on shoes if it's muddy, and always be prepared, mum now wears Dubarry's at the slightest sign of mud to prevent a repeat. My sister has been very tempted to wear Amborgetta's when it's hot as they are very cool on the feet but still smart. mum wears a gorgeous pair of brown brogues that have a patch of black suede that looks fab.

Back when my Mum used to do lead rein with us she used to get some plain black shoes from a second hand shop for £10!!! They lasted for at least 4 years & are fab when dry ground. Dubarrys look okay in the winter & when it's muddy! If not plain black/brown shoes (depending on the colour of the outfit) with straps.

Bloomin' hell,it was so muddy that year! I found it hilarious, but then being 5 I would! I got to ride in the enormous Massey tractor that the towing guy had,I felt so cool

I lost my shoe at Hoys 2007 in the M&M LR, I had never had a problem with them before but during our show it just fell off, I kept running and have a lovely photo with me only wearing one shoe. One of Jeromes lads picked it up and returned it to me . The judge never said anything so I guess she didn't notice !! I never wore them again and now have a pair of closed in shoes.
