Following on from the debate regarding Pro's & Home Produced on here. I would like to open up a friendly debate on your views regarding the Cuddy In Hand final at hoys.
Do you think it is time that this championship is opened up to a wider audience at hoys. After all, people attend from around the world to view what we have on offer from the in hand sections. My suggestion to open this shop window even wider and to make it more attractive and interesting for everyone. Thus allowing for a more varied group of finalists at hoys.
For example; Qualifers at each show are split into groups allowing one from the plaited section to go through and one from the m & m/non plaited section? At selected breed shows allow for a Cuddy qualifier to take place.

I dont think it should be changed - as it stands at the moment the best animal on the day goes forward.

Yes! I think M & M's should have seperate quals. V difficult to judge a native against a plaited. Its just judges own preference thats determining what goes through at the moment which is fine but there are very few judges who have a good allround knowledge of plaited's e.g. hunter / Riding Ponies And M & M breeds.

I think it should stay the same. We are home produced & have been in the Cuddy final at Hoys twice with an M&M. It is great to compete in such a prestigious championship with such amazing producers. It's the judges decision on the day but M&M's often win the title above the plaited ponies & horses.

They should put something on it to stop certain producers from getting so many tickets so it allows more people to get through & give Home Produced more of a chance to get through. Getting through to the Cuddy at HOYS with my shetland mare is my absolute dream but I know deep down, I have no chance.

I think its about time it was split into ponies and horses at qualifiers as this year it appears to be a pony Cuddy. They are separated at the final so why not at the quals then at least its an equal number at the final. They might of well have renamed it the pony cuddy this year as there arent many horses through

i think that is better - if the judges consider there are better ponies than the bigger horses then surely they should go through. If you split it you could (potentially) end up with lesser quality animals forward

As much as I would love to see seperate horse, pony and native sections at HOYS and then the Championship for the overall Cuddy I don't think it will ever happen and to be honest, the way it is now works.
You only get the best of the best in the Cuddy and to get a qualifier is no mean feat in itself.
As to the producer debate - if they have the best horse or pony on the day why bar them? You would then end up with inferior animals representing British breeding at the most prestigious show in the country.

I also agree the cuddy does work how it is now and i don't think its format should be changed
