Post by entries refuses on Jun 13, 2007 10:40:25 GMT
I received a letter from the Royal Show this morning with my entries returned refusing to accept them!! Apparently my entries according to them were received on the 1st May, when they shut on the 27th April, bearing in mind that there was a Saturday and Sunday in between the 27th April and the 1st May. I know that they were postmarked the 27th April as I do with all entries. I left these until the last minute because as you all know they are very expensive and wanted to make sure I was taking the right horse. My gripe is not with having them returned but the fact it has taken them nearly 7 weeks to let me know. I rang them and they said the horse entries are up by a few hundred so everything that wasn't received before the 27th April was sent back. We all have to book holidays from work and plan in advance why oh why do they not have the decency to tell people earlier? - her excuse - they were waiting to see if there were any withdrawals. I then asked her how many were in my class?? Guess what there were only 5!! They can not accommodate all of the lorries apparently. This is yet another example of poor management from the Royal Show - do you all remember the farce last year with the HOYS ridden - I really think that they should clean up their act. OK rant over!!

I can understand your gripe about it taking so long, but IMO if entries close on 27 April then they would have to be received by then and not posted on that date.

Last year I entered a HOYS class at the Royal, within a week disaster had struck and I knew we would not be able to go, I immediately wrote to Royal to withdraw, they sent back all of my paperwork, just as I had sent it, minus the cheque..........nothing had been done with the entry, it was only 5 days a fter I had sent it, so they cannot say it was admin costs, the only admin involved was opening the envelope! A bank statement showed that the cheque had not cleared through the a/c until a month after my paperwork was returned. I was furious, and will never entertain going to the Royal again

anotherrant - we had a similar experience wit Bath and West, with the horse having an illness making it unable to compete. We informed them the horse wouldn't be competing, but they had already banked the cheque etc, and we weren't asking for our money back, so that was fine. But they then refused to send us any of tghe passes we were due to get (we wanted to go to watch - minus horse).
We'd only phoned them out of courtesy to let them know the horse wouldn't be competing, if we hadn't phoned we'd have been sent the passes with no questions asked.

Same thing happened to me. I sent my entries on 26th April, Ist Class. They returned them today, they were stamped as received 30th may! Where were they for 5 weeks? They also returned my cheque AND another entrants cheque! What is going on?

I've been told that there are hundreds that they are returning. She also said that they had only just manged to put them all onto the system - its taken nearly 7 weeks to do that.
To get another cheque back belonging to another exhibitor is clearly poor management on behalf of the Royal isn't it?

These shows ought to get their act together and start treating the competitor with respect. It is not our fault if they cant cope. To send entries back and pretend it is our fault is just not on. They should remember that it is the competitor that pays their wages.

I sent my forms off for the Royal on the 27th! so they would have been postmarked for that date, but I am assuming not received until at least the Monday?
I received a receipt of my entries at the start of this month, did anyone who has had their entries sent back receive a receipt?
So from the looks of things, my entries have been accepted? in which case after what point sis they start refusing the entries and sending them back?
I also would have thought that if the closing date was a Friday they would still have accepted the entries received on the following Monday morning?

If you have had a receipt and they have cashed your cheque then you have been accepted. If they didn't have a cut off point, how did they decide who could and who couldn't enter???

The entry fees for the Royal are probably the most expensive in the country, you would expect a 1st class service not a 3rd rate one

i would say ring the H&H or soem other magazine to complain. bit stupid of them as most places will accept entries a couple of days late.
would also say tho if your entries had been returned without the cheque then cancel the cheque

I recieved mine back 2day aswell I know i sent them on the 26th first class, so they should have recieved then on the 27th, the letter says they recieved them on the 30th! I am the first to admit i'm very slack with closing dates, and often send them off on the closing date So this has taught me a lesson to get my act together!! Im still pretty annoyed though, this will be the first year ive not been at the royal for as long as I can remember!

A letter to H & H it is then!!!
There obviously have far too much money in the bank then to worry about a few extra entries.
I know a lot of producers don't enter until the very closing date so it will be interesting to see if all of those get turned away as well.

The extra cheque that they returned to me was from a very well known producer, so they are not discriminating. They are equally incompetent across the board.
I think it would be a nice, customer orientated gesture if they re-opened entries for a further 7 days. Pigs might fly!

I really dont know what to say, I know for a fact I sent my entries off ON the closing date, so I am almost 100% positive they would have received them on the Monday, so I personaly fail to understand how mine have been accepted and others refused??? Although I wont question it too much!! Hopefully it will be the producers who would have been i my class that have not had their entries accepted! (Sorry )

This is totally unacceptable. My entries also returned and purportedly date stamped 30 May. posted 1st class on the 25th April along with (ie in same post) as entries elswhere which, interestingly arrived and the cheque banked by the recipient on the 27th April. I am not prepared to be treated in this way and propose to take the matter a lot further. The Royal Show is our family treat and I had booked a Locum (will mention here I am the Senior Partner of a Firm of Solicitors) for the day and my daughter is booked out of School and is missing a School Trip, which no doubt will not now accomodate her. Above all my classes were all Hoys qualifiers. My ponies are SHPs and Coloureds and are Professionally Produced. Anyone interested in taking this further too? ?

I refused to enter this year as the costs of entering the royal were getting stupid....however I wonder how Hoys will feel about all the Levies they are missing out on due to entries being returned ??

Mine too returned I think they left it to now as the catalogue has been printed and there is no way anybody could fight their corner. They obviously have parking issues and there had to be a cut off point somewhere so they have just lied basiclly Im very dissapointed not to be going when i could have entered somewhere else instead.

I wasn't told exactly this morning how many they have returned but by the sounds of the people on here there is going o be a lot.
I thought the Royal Show was suppose to promote Britain and its heritage??? Is it more lucative to have other things at the Royal rather than the horses hence the size of the car park seems to have got smaller over the years
I think HOYS will be interested to see how much they have lost given the fiasco with the marks last year.

Our entries were returned too today. I know for a fact they were posted on the 25th April, first class however the stamp i have on my entries says 30th April....... how convienient that they arrived the first working day after the closing date! My thoughts too were that they have waited for the catalogues to go to print before returning them. I have had a conversation with two people this morning at the RASE livestock office, the first said it was either my fault or the posts! so when i enquired as to why there has been a 7 week delay in returning my entries she said 'well we have been three weeks behind' right in that case should they not have moved the closing date back 3 weeks? also if they are three weeks behind should i have not have had my entries returned 3 weeks after the suposed 30th and not seven? anyway then the first woman proceded to tell me not to raise my voice at her as she was having a bad day!!!!! WELL I WONDER WHY?? so I asked to speak so called 'management' who to be quite frank was worse than the first person i spoke to!! I ended up putting the phone down on her as i was tired of all the rubbish that was spueing from her mouth! We have competed at the Royal Show every year for the last 11 and look forward to competing there year after year no matter what our results are, now we may have a re-think about whether to compete there again. I think the only thing people can do about the situation that has arisen this year is to boycott the show next year! I too have considered further action regarding this appalling fiasco. The whole thing stinks to me!!!!

I too have had entries returned....despite posting recorded delivery 24/4/07!!!! I too have a larger lorry...how many of you that have had returned entries have a longer lorry? Mine too was stamped 30/5/07.....they told me they are date stamped on receipt. Unfortunately I cannot find my Post Office receipt, but will go there tomorrow morning to check. Have any of you phoned RASE....maybe catalogues are not yet done and we could still get in??? I am waiting for my phonecall to be returned. My theory is they were inundated with entries and actually cut off before the closing date.

If i were any of you lot i would most certainly be writing to horse and hound, im just glad i didnt enter. i was just wondering though do you think it could have something to do with the number of classes each person enters. such as if you have entered alot of classes they have accepted but if not then you have it back. Obviously i dont know how many classes everyone has entered but it was just a thought.

My entry has been refused as well, having been posted 1st class and it should have got there in time, but apparently got there on 30th.
This was my first year entering the Royal Show, I've only been showing a few years and I was really looking forward to it. I went to the trouble of persuading my work experience placement (which I was meant to be doing on the day of my class) to let me do an extra weekend day so that I get the full work experience, although this is obviously now for nothing. I also feel really guilty as dad has been working so so hard to finish a job he is on, just so that it was done by the show so that he could drive me, and he's been working late into the night and early in the morning to do this for me.
Really not impressed.

I am so glad my 15hander is not up to jumping the open tracks yet. From what you have all posted i am so very glad i did enter this show. It is appauling and you should take further action or it is more than likely to happen again as they will think they can get away with it.

I've sent an email to Horse and Hound I think if we all do the same we may highlight the awful management of the Royal Show. If you go onto the H & H website you can send an email to the editor. I'm sure people power will be able to do something about this.

This is a little naughty isnt it ( must add im not sec of this society!!!!!) but if you see my rants post, but RASE must be a bigger organisation than my one man band, i mean i let the entries for mine come until i had nearly got to the bottom of the pile, and did take them upto a week after happily, but do think competitors should enter a little sooner as loads of you do leave it until the last min makes it very hard, also must admit when we get near our parking limit ( generally 1200 max) if we had got to that we would have to turn away before closing date which i wasnt happy about doing, but needs must.
Seems odd that all of you with large lorries are being refused, But i must admit on being a brownie and a girl guide i like to be prepared when i am sending entries, always get a proof of posting, always pay by postal order ( immediate clearing) as you will see my post on bounced cheques !!!!! and if in doubt pay the 4.00 and have it special delivery.
We know the postal service isnt what it should be, which may have happened in this case but wait and see the class sizes and see if its had a dramtic effect on them
All i can say is get sending earlier to avoid this in future.

Can anyone tell me if you have been rejected have you had a receipt from the Royal earlier this month, or is this the first you have heard from the Royal?
Very worried we may be rejected too as we have a big box.
