I have read stories in the farming press that the Royal is in trouble anyway - and there was even talk that it might not happen this year or next. Perhaps this is part of that?

Hi They are balloting the entries and deciding who can compete and who can't. Absolutely disgusting. HOYS and the sponsors of HOYS aught to get involved as by charging the HOYS levy,The Royal Show are effectively acting for them.

You are possibly right, as I have already said in this thread earlier, I sent my entries off on the closing date, we were not going to go, but decided to at the last minute. I received a receipt last week sometime, so I am assuming my entries have been processed and accepted. I fail to understand how my entries have been accepted and others not?

We too have had our entries sent back. They were sent by first class mail 4 days before the closing date. We were entered in the ridden with just one horse in a 3.5 ton horse lorry. So angry as we have been going to the show for years and although this year we don't have anything that is a particularly strong HOYs contender, the royal is the only hoys class we were going to do just because we wanted to ride at the royal!!!! Will be on the phone to the Royal, horse and hound and HOYs first thing monday morning! There has clearly been some sort of c0ck up and they are trying to shift the blame to the competitors rather than accepting it themselves!

I understand that The Royal Show are now reviewing the situation as it seems so widespread. Suggest those disappointed contact the office.

Do not pin any hopes on H+H taking up the 'fight', they are not better than the Royal themselves!!

Just a thought, can you join the society at the Royal like other counties, and if so has it made a difference.
I have just heard that my entries for another county have been accepted. I sent them on the day before closing and I know that the class could be oversubscribed.
Is that one of the benefits of being a member.

My entries have just arrived but when i looked at the paperwork there was a horse missing after ringing the office she assured me i would get the entry for the other horse tommorow what a waste of time and postage doing things like this they are both ridden ponies 1 in INT and 1 section D both HOYS classes she explained that they are doing it in sections how odd.

If people and producers had been sending entries in late and expected them to be accepted then they should think again. Anyone entering a Championship or KC Dog Show who makes a mistake, omits a registration or stud book number, doesn't declare a bit*h has been spayed, has a cheque bounce, posts after the closing date, etc has their entries returned and has to accept this so why should any horse and pony show secretary have to put up with bad behaviour from those who can't organise their entries? If our show secretaries turned away forms with mistakes and omissions it might make people sit up and enter properly and that in turn would assist all those administrating. If people don't get them in on time they shouldn't be allowed to compete.

I quite agree to be honest, the closing date is known as soon as you get the schedule and if you choose to run the risk of sending your entries the day of closure or the day before you are choosing to risk your entries being rejected.
The majority of us can manage to get our entries in and that is why we recieved our passes yesterday (in response to 'HELP' - you normally collect your numbers from the hut near the top of the horse walks).
End of the day you missed the closing date and its actually very good of the RASE staff/committee to reconsider your entries.

Not everyone missed the closing date, some were sent well in advance.

The whole point is that most of the entries that were not accepted were sent well before the closing date, but some of the later entries were accepted. If you read the H&H article, it appears that some of the entries received were incorrectly date stamped which was why they were refused. Not because they missed the deadline.

as far as I can see reading the H&H article, the date-stamp error was instead of stamping 30th April (STILL after the closing date) some were date stamped 30th May. Also from reading the above 4 pages of thread, it seems the large majority chose to send their entries the day of or the day before or even 2 days before closure and they chose to send them by standard post. If you wanted to guarantee their arrival on time there are services in the PO you can use, a first class stamp does not guarantee anything.
Clearly the Royal Show should have a) sent them back much faster and b) retained the orignal envelopes as proof of late delivery and they are not entirely blameless in their procedures but I still retain that they are being very good to reconsider those entries that were delivered past the closing date. 166 entries have been returned - a small minority i suspect considering what they get every year which only goes to proove that the large majority again can get their entries in on time and there is little excuse for those that don't.

Quite agree - the returned entries were definately not all late. I have NEVER missed a show entry, and usually (as in the case of the Royal) post registered delivery. Whatever the admin error, it would appear that the RASE have accomodated all whose entries were returned and for that I am grateful. The lady I have spoken to has been extremely helpful.
What more can I do than send my entry 4 days before the closing date registered post???
