I didn't enter this year but think this is disgusting.
To show secretary - yes we are all guilty of leaving it late to post stuff. The reason behind this is because entries often close SO ridiculously early and sometimes it is impossible to know if your horse will be ready/sound etc so you wait in the hope they will be.
I am in the unfortunate situation that my horse has sustained a serious injury this season. I have £400 in entries which most shows refuse to refund. I have had are unsympathetic and often rude secretaries telling me 'no refunds under any circumstances'! Not even a vets certificate will surfice. Apparently you have to die to warrant a refund.
The ONLY exceptions to this have been Shropshire and west mids who was VERY nice and helpful and the SFAS secretary who was lovely and couldn't have been nicer.
Is it surprising therefore when entries close in May for a July show that people wait until the last minute?

A month is perfectly fair but some shows are 2 1/2 months in advance - I often don't know what I'm doing tomorrow let alone the end of the summer!
I do appreciate what a huge job it is etc but the longer the time between closing date and show then the nearer people will leave it to the closing date.

i have had a receipt back and paid by credit card entered 3 classes and drive a 3 horse box so as i have paid i hope i will be fine, i think it is very bad of the royal show to wait until now to inform people that they have been refused entry , there seems quite a few of you!

Have just spoken to my friend and she sent her entries off the same day as us (25th april) and hers were accepted. The only two differences we can think of is that she a) has a small lorry and b) is only doing in-hand classes. Is everyone that has been refused doing ridden stuff or is it the in-handers as well?

I have had mine returned and i have a 7.5 ton lorry I think we deserve some sort of compensation for all those of us who have booked holiday, taken kids out of school and rearranged plans just to find out we've drawn the short straw, and so will not be attending.

Oh dear you've got me all very worried now. I expect my entries are fine - they deff got there on time and I've had a reciept BUT I am travelling with a producer in their big lorry. Will have to check if they've heard anything back.
I have to say though - people who posted them on 26th/ 27th that is no excuse. 1st class doesn't guarentee next day (I often have to sne stuff special delivery to make sure.) I get worried sending them 2 days before....

i entered 1 pony for in hand welsh class on the wednesday - this was sent a week to 10 days b4 the closing date. I recieved the entry confirmation within 2-3 weeks and they even let me book a stable over the phone 2 weeks ago. Perhaps wednesday is a quiet day there?!

I have just been informed I have had my entry rejected too (also posted 1st class on the 26th)
I have bought additional tickets via the website, booked time off work, got other people to book time off work to come and watch, got people to rearrange thier time to cover those of us going to the show and all for nothing.
WHY did it take 7 WEEKS to let us know?

Have entered 2 ponies in-hand, paid by credit card and had a receipt ages ago. Have a 39ft. 7 horse lorry, so maybe it is only the ridden ??
Incidentally, earlier in the year I had planned to take four ponies, so spent a fortune having them all fully vaccinated (only do tetanus apart from riddens), only to find that when the schedule arrived it is now only ' recommended that all horses be fully vaccinated' !

Interestingly I found out numbers entered in coloured classes a few weeks ago; so surely they must have known then that people's entries were being rejected

Mine were returned and I had booked 2 stables. I posted mine on 24/4/07 and even prompted my friend to send hers. She posted hers the following morning and has been accepted....mine have been returned.
I paid by cheque and she paid by card!!! I wonder if any whose entries were returned paid by card??
Have any inhanders had their entries returned?
Just wondering if there is any common factor to the returned entries as I cannot believe mine were not in their hands on the closing date. I have never missed a show entry before and the whole family is disappointed.

We keep our ponies with a top producer and have just had a call from him to say all the Royal Show entries have been returned! He says that he sent them off in plenty of time and cannot believe they have been returned. My daughter is beside herself as this is her last year in ponies and was the first opportunity she has ever had to ride there......I have also contacted H & H and I believe that a few have also been in touch with Farmers Guardian. Surely if we all kick up a fuss something will have to be done...maybe would should contact the sponsors and let them know what a farse they are involved with!!!!

The RASE assure me they have an "infallible" system with mail. It is stamped with date received and put in the appropriate pigeon hole. As my returned entries were stamped 30/5/07 I feel this "infallible" system has fallen to human error - which we are all capable of! Could it not be possible that a batch (or 2) of mail was "misplaced"...and only came to light after the closing date.
I wonder if they have ever experienced this amount of "late entries" and discontented customers before?
Perhaps someone more computer literate could email the RASE with this thread. I think they should read this and add their comments!!!!

I will email the thread to them I suggest a few people do also just so it cant be ignored !!! Grandstand Media may like to know too re all the levies they have lost... I wasnt affected by this but think the whole thing is disgusting, I sent my Rihs entries last week got so paranoid after this royal saga I have rung them to confirm they arrived ....they were sent signed for too....but Hickstead are a class act compared to the Royals admin it seems.

I've just had a thought
Is all the returned mail stamped the 30th MAY?
Could it be that it was processes the Monday following the closing date of entries (even if recieved on Friday as and the 'stamp' set up wrong but that it has taken them so long to process them that the fact they were dated in the futre went un noticed?
This would also explain why later entries were accepted as the stamp was then adjusted to the correct date.

Did any of you who have had entries returned get a reciept for them a while back?

No, I did not get a receipt. I was getting anxious so I phoned the office at the end of last week....I learned then that my entries had not been processed - but they could not say if they were in the "huge box" of entries to be returned!! I did comment then that it is standard practice to return entries that will not be processed straight away - and (I believe) these are usually accompanied by the original envelope. Did any of you get your envelope back - I didn't. I say "I believe" as I have never yet missed an entry date.....though whatever happened to my entry to Cheshire show in 2001 is still an unsolved mystery!!!!
I would love to know what happened as some (most by the sound of things) of these entries must have been at the address by the closing date. I have not had one other problem with the dozens of other shows I have entered!
Have all of you with returned entries phoned the RASE office? If not - do so!!!

I asked for my original envelope with the post stamp on it and they said that they didn't keep them. This is bad management as we are only taking there word they have nothing to back up that these entries weren't received in time apart from their date stamp.
They even admitted that they had a three week back log, so how do they know when they wre received?
I've rang them and put the phone down on them because I ended up speaking to a woman that really hadn't got a clue.
How many HOYS entries have been lost?

I have just heard from my Producer, who has heard that another Producer's "rejected" entries are being reviewed tomorrow. I do not know the "facts" but what is good for the Goose etc.
Everyone get on the the Royal's Entry Secretary tomorrow.
....and the Horse and Hound - it is our "voice" !!!!
