It was HORRIBLE weather! I was SO wet, my trousers were soaking, my jacket failed and my hair was plastered to my head!
The M+M LR was won by a shetland, I think it was a Transy pony. The M+M FR was won by Greyoaks Gillian Rose, little grey welsh A ridden by James Hay.
Lough Crew was WHP champion, I think it was an Irish pony in reserve. Show Pony champion was Willowhill Forget Me Not. SHP champion was the 14hh winner (don't know name, sorry) with reserve going to James Hay and his 12 hander (again, don't know name, sorry)

6 Shetland ponies fom the heavy horse lines were sent home today with suspected strangles. Apparently the public are not being allowed in to that area. what a worry for all concerned, lets hope it is a false alarm as ponies are there from all over the UK

I really do wish the Highland would change photographer. I had 2 ponies at the show and the photos were total rubbish. They also seem to have missed random classes out It's a big show and I always love buying photos, especially since this Highland will probably be my last for a while, but the photos taken were so bad that I couldn't face coughing up for any of them I've spoken to a few people who feel the same way, it's a shame as people love buying photos from the only big show up here.

Just to confirm did you mean 6 shetlands were asked to leave because they were ill or did they leave / withdraw because the owners thought they were ill

Lets hope its not contagious
IF it is lets hope its confined, if not lets hope those involved don't travel down to the Shetland performance show at Malvern or any of those involved were from that area With an Olympia ticket up for grabs Shetlands go to Malvern from all over the country

What was the Hunter Pony. Hear it shocked the pro's!! Did it come from the Isle of Bute? Can't remember it's name and don't have a catalogue to hand but I can confirm that it did indeed come from the Isle of Bute. I was talking to some friends of the owners afterwards and they will be making the journey to Birmingham. Good on them - it's quite a trek! Speak of the Cuddy, I thought the overall hunter youngstock champion that came forward was a superb stamp - really stood out for me (If my memory serves correctly it was a 2 or 3yo filly, but I had partaken of the odd Pimms by that point).

What a washout of a show!
As an exhibitor of shetland ponies affected by the virus and quarantined I would just like to clarify that there was definately no strangles, it has an incubation period of 7-10 days so even if the affected ponies had caught strangles from the show then clinical symptoms would not show up until they returned home a week later.
The vet is convinced it is a mild respiratory virus which is being treated on bute alone, it will just run its course. Vet has taken blood samples from some ponies and results will be available in due course. No swabbing was necessary!

having just recovered from a strangles outbreak, may i say you have my full sympathy in the scaremongering that goes on re strangles. The horse world goes in to panic mode whenever the word is mentioned and whilst i fully appreciate the severity of the disease it is made SO much worse by the panic surrounding it. EVERY horse owner should make themselves fully aware of all the symptoms of strangles and be very vigilant with their own and any ponies/horses they come into contact with, it would probably make this awful infection a lot rarer . I would also like to point out that the incubation period for strangles can be as little as 2 days and as long as 14.

My thoughts are with the owner of the Shetlands involved - fingers crossed the blood tests give good news!
