News hot of the press, the Arab Horse National Championships to be held at Malvern next week have been cancelled, the really first big cancelation of the year. The show comittee and reps of the AHS met there this afternoon and it was deamed unsafe to hold the show, and it apears that there are concerns as to when the next scedualed show will be held there as the surounding area and and roads are badly flooded. The 3 counties comittee are under the impression that the show ground will take weeks to dry out, if we get good weather, but more rain is forcast over the next two weeks. My feelings are with the arab people who wait all year for this, it their HOYs and RIHS all rolled into one.

If the NPS are Very quick they could move it to Kent County for one year only. the showground is bone dry and the going hard! We would have to fend for ourselves food wise but who'd care? Motorway network is good and there's enough space.

You won't even get there at the moment. Anyone see Upton on Severn on the News? Forget trying to get a lorry through...titanic comes to mind.

Motorway network is good and there's enough space. There's a week and as the Arab Show is off the stabling could be moved elsewhere. Kent County Showground at Detling definitely wont flood as it's very high and is on chalk. the people who run it are very helpful so it might be worth going for. Better than no champs at all. Area 20 would pull together and give everyone a great time.

Weather report is for more rain this week so not looking great.
Even if it does go ahead, if it is raining again that week not sure I really want to spend 3 days in the rain getting wet, cold and muddy !!!
If we miss it this year - not really that bothered. But I feel for all the people who have spent a lot of time and money qualifying for finals, and really looking forward to the finals.
Lexy.

Showground fine, buildings being used by displaced persons because of flooded houses.

There are other ways in, I remember the bridge at Upton on Severn being closed and we all had to go a long way round.

Rings at Kent were good to firm for the show two weeks ago, cant say to the best of my knowledge its the worst show ground I've been to!! The rings are permanent and well kept, and the access is good, yes its a lot further for some to travel to, but its better than no show at all.

What an awful shame for the Arab peeps - hope they can re-schedule/re-locate for them.
I've given up as far as this season's concerned - I'm fed up with trying to keep pony fit & ready to show only to have them cancelled/me wake up to torrential rain in the morning & not feel like going anyway.

Would "East of England", " Newark" ," Herts county "," Leics show ground " Harrogate" Kent", Lincoln show ground ",somewhere surely would be better than risking malvern and canceling, as someone has all ready said, its all the qualifying miles one has to travel.

I'd better go and get the shetland a snorkel!!! On a more serious note, well done Lexy for putting things into perspective. We may or may not be able to go to a show. I'm sure the people who are flooded and without electric, drinking water etc would be glad if thats all they had to worry about.

YES i quite agree! what a dredful situation the poor people in the middle of that and i dont see that clearing up for weeks, if you recall the village in doncaster took ages to subside.
I think the NPS will poss make an annoucement tomorrow, i just dont see it happening look at that picture.

Hope this will not be moved to Kent I only have a trailer and can go the Malvern for the day from where I live, don't do any other Champs because of the distance and lack of overnight facilities without having a lorry..used a tent once and it just did not work! If the Champs are moved so be it, but I hope the NPS will be willing to refund entry fees, I am sure I am not the only one that would not be able to travel to Kent or indeed any other location a hugh distance away

As I understand it this morning, the showground at Malvern is in perfect condition, the problem is with access which at the moment is difficult to say the least but things can change very quickly. The NPS will make a formal announcement on Thursday on our website.

THANK YOU DAVID
My concern is that if all is well and we can get there, what if it rains again while we are there, and get stranded.(and no gin)
The problem is it will not take a lot to burst the banks of the seven again, sorry to be pessimistic.
Do you think if the situation is that they cant use 3 counties it will be moved.

I think we only have 2 alternatives if we have to cancel. We can run the whole show later in the year (if a date is available at Malvern) or to move to another venue if we can find one, and just run the Finals and Olympia and HOYS qualifiers. One thing I think is certain, is that we cannot move the whole show at short notice. I would add that this is only my opinion, and the Council will decide before Thursday.

When Upton on Severn Bridge was closed traffic was diverted through Tewkesbury - so not an option now All I can think (apart from extreme sorrow for people etc in that area) is thank heaven we weren't all there last week and got stranded either at the show ground or on the way home on the M5!
