Unless you have actually ridden in the arena at HOYS/RIHS/Olympia etc, I don't feel that you can truly appreciate the atmosphere and how it affects both horse/pony and rider regarding nerves/ability to perform to their usual standard. It is most definitely not a case of 'just sitting on board' at all.
It is a totally different ball game, no matter how experienced a rider you are, or how many times the horse/pony has been there, you cannot just be on board and go through the motions, you have to be able to keep all the plates spinning at once - I really do not feel that buying an animal with a ticket is as simple as it may seem.

The show is open to anyone who qualifies, chances are the only people moaning about such petty little things are doing so through jealousy. If they have qualified and aren't breaking any rules then its up to them whether the horse goes in the ring and who is on its back.. No one else's business really??
Aparently this rider only jumped on the horse to go in the ring at Hoys... Takes more guts than someone who's been riding the horse all year and probably gives you a slight disadvantage I'd say.
If Hoys isn't up to your standard then maybe its time to move onto a more strict discipline as showing really isn't likely to change... Time to grow up and move on rather than slate people for things that's none of your business??
Also, I'm in no way connected to anyone here and haven't ever been in this situation!

Animals do vary though in their reaction to extremely stressful venues - I've had some who wouldn't care a stuff and others who go into meltdown and can't cope at all. Those in the former category would be fine with a less experienced rider, those in the latter wouldn't!

Anyone ever had a home shopping delivery? Yes? What, you paid someone to do your shopping while you sat on your arse and waited for it to be driven to you? You lazy buggers you obviously don't have the ability to get in your car and choose for yourself. OR, maybe you run a business/have a family/work away/all of the above/etc/etc and your time is better spent doing that so you can pay for your chosen HOBBY. Just a thought....:-)
