Having watched the hack classes I agree it was nice to see an unbiased judge, her final placings reflected the horses type and how they had performed.
The champion Cassa Leona was foot perfect and totally stunning especially in the International Arena reminded me of Absolutely at RI a couple of years ago. Good to see Adam back in the show ring wisely taking advantage of the Carol G-S look and way of going.
The reserve Daldorn Legacy deserved to come up to win the smalls and went well in the championship. What a good season he is having.
All in all lovely to see these two true hack types looking so elegant and mannerly in the perfect setting of the International Arena a credit to all concerned.

Guestt perhaps you would like to take it up directly with both of the judges you name instead of slagging them off on here under a pseudonym. You obviously witnessed the class. If you have issues with standards of judging, take it up with the relevant society in writing after your discussion with the relevant judge on the day in question. In the meantime complete your application to become a judge and see how it feels. It was a breath of fresh air to have Mr illsley & Mrs Fluck judging and DIFFERENT RESULTS. Watching from the side of the ring you could follow what they wre looking for and they looked to be sharing their opinions. In the south we get fed up of the same rounds of judges and the same sets of results so THANK YOU Hickstead for relieving us of this situation. It was great to see new ponieds qualifying and watching their connections experience the joy of the moment. Thank you Mr Illsley & Mrs Fluck. Long may you continue to judge our native breeds. That's a little generous considering sam roberts won 3 out of the 6 sections

regarding the winner 'wrong legging it' i wasn't there, but from reports, as i understand it the going was so bad that loads wrong legged it, in fact most of the potential winners did. I couldn't be happier for jennie claire and their gang. 'Wobbly Cobley' is unassuming, not pushy, honest, and as well as that, she's gorgeous!! I wish them all success I've long since come to the conclusion, if a judge wants a pony, for whatever reason, they have it. Fair? Snce when has fair had anything to do with it, it's an opinion, one person on the day! People say to me , "i wish results were more consistent" What they mean is having won once, they wish they'd win everytime. happily the inconsistencies, give hope to good honest worthy ponies and riders who are often unplaced but will have their turn, one day.

Sam does an extremely good job at producing and riding her ponies, and is also lucky enough to have some fab ponies. Bot her and her mother work very hard to get the results she does.
And she is multi talented girl ... she has been winning at Affil dressage too ! (Report in H&H this week)

Rather than bit*hing and assuming ther is something suspicious, wjy don't you watch and learn and also genuinely consider whether the pony deserved to win on the day ?

Why are you all so quick to assume that I was saying she didn't deserve it? As I dont believe I said anything to that effect - only that I was suprised as someone banging on about the 'new faces' when Sam won 50% of the classes! I am in total agreement with the above comments re. her horsemanship skills - her ponies never put a foot wrong, and are produced to perfection - and I think 2/3 deserved their place yesterday. The only questionable one was the C, who goes beautifully but doesn't look like a C in my opinion, but did go foot perfect

The c goes beutifully but is not everyones type. The judge there obviously liked it . Who rode the c? ? Was it the normal jockey??

The C that won did go well - most things that Sam rides do. She is not it's normal jockey. I think the issue was that it was obvious it was going to win before it stepped in the ring. It is owned by the same family that own the Wortley B pony that was 2nd in the A/B class. This was pulled in 3rd and many felt should have won, it went very well. Certainly the owners were unhappy with the result and made their displeasure known which caused the considerable rechecking of marks. They were also holding the C whilst this was going on and talking to spouses of the judges, making it very obvious which C was theirs. I wonder if the win was 'compensation'? It may have won anyway but feel it looked very obvious. Whilst also accepting the judges may need to take a break between classes but would question if it is in good form to sit amongst competitors waiting to go in and talk to conncections?

Interestingly, I would have thought it would be the other way around, and that by openly criticising the judges decision on a previous class, they would be scuppering their chances in the next class if the C wad obviously theirs. I think it could work either way.
I have no interest at all in the discussion re the M&M class as I don't know the ponies, riders or watched the class, however, interested in the above comment.
