Caroline, Lulu and family a well deseved win!! Most people are nice but you always get the odd one! I saw a few classes that day and a few wrong legs! so what? they were corrected and carried on no big deal in my eyes. Just ignore the sad ones you know you have a good horse and a good jockey! Hopefully will see u at hoys (not in the toilets i hope!) And we will all be celebrating, Well done again to you all xx

Lets just remember that most wrong legs are caused by rider not horse!

Well done Caroline, However i do feel strongly about correctness and manners in a class. So how many of you who think its ok for a judge to ignore a wrong leg would actually like it if you were pulled in 2nd first horse wrong legged it then you went perfect, however your still 2nd!! I'm sure there would be a different response from everyone this would be the same if broke into canter or went disunited the emphasis isnt on wrong leg it is on correctness of show and manners. Anyone says the wouldnt be disgruntled would be lying, and the thing is this happens all the time! If your 2nd to something then your not that far away from it.

Well done Caroline and all connected with the winning hack. I'm not sure why people can't allow you to enjoy the moment, it really makes you wonder about some people. I was obviously deluded enough to think that Lulu would be one horse most people who show horses wouldn't begrudge getting her ticket.

i'm sorry this has turned into such a debate!! lulu did wrong leg it but she also gave a superb ride which is after all the main criteria of the hack class. on the day the judges clearly thought that her one fault (the brief wrong leg) stilll did not warrant dropping her to a lower placing, and that after all is what we pay our money for - for the opinion of the judges. - and yes i would still have the same opinion had they decided to drop her lower!!!

Caroline you should not apologise for your horse winning the class!!! There are 3 parts to Hack classes unlike all the other classes!!! The judges ride and the conformation warrant more marks than the riders display. I don't know how to put it without it sounding funny but it's not your fault they kept her first - I hope nobody takes offence to that, don't know how else to say it!!
Stop having a go at the owner for gods sake!!!!!!!

I was in the same class as Lulu and thought that she thoroughly deserved to win the class. The conditions in that ring were awful. I was riding a horse that knows exactly what to do but i brought him out after my show as it was not fair to let the judge ride him with the mood that he was in and in the conditons.

I have no idea whether you are a horse or pony person, so please take what I say kindly! In pony classes, it often appears to be the be all and end all if a pony goes on the wrong leg. In horse classes it simply is NOT that important. There are many examples of horses winning or being highly placed in a class having gone on the wrong leg. Probably get only one chance to make that mistake, but nonetheless, it is not that rare an occurrence. And I also believe that a wrong leg quickly corrected, is nowhere NEAR as bad as a swishing tail, ears flat back (showing a negative attitude from the horse) or a horse that is above/behind the bit and not moving forwards. 5 wrong legs when the judge is riding is probably 4 wrong legs too many - but even then, it is STILL down to the judge's personal preference and you have to grin and bear it if they still prefer that particular horse on the day. Horse people just do not seem as hung up about wrong legs as those with ponies or who have just come from pony classes to horse classes.

I'm a horse person, and as my post said the emphasis is on correctness and manners whether it be a wrong leg, not going forward, above the bit, bucking, over bent, tanking off, going disunited, striking off in canter/trot incorrectly in the show - all of which are forgiven at sometime but some judges! If i was judging then all the above would be penalised some heavier than others of course. So my post wasnt to discredit the winner just giving my opinion of which I am entitled to as much as the next person! when describing the scoring system for a class i believe in most cases the words correctness manners are used to describe individual shows. So i guess itnot just my opinion either - the horse associations would also like to see these taking seriously!

I was once in an RI qual, got pulled in 3rd in a good class, 1st 2 went on wrong leg so thought the class was mine - 1st and 2nd were not dropped and I stayed 3rd. At the time I was gutted but later on in the day I realised their horses were obviously better than mine in that particular judges eye which as most 'grown ups' do I took it on the chin and as it happens I beat them the next week anyway.
Tafsmum - yes of course there is emphasis on manners etc but as stated above there are 3 parts to the Hack classes to which the judges ride and conformation stand for more marks than the invidual show. Why don't you get yourself on a panel - seems as though you have a lot to offer.

I would just like to say a huge congratulations to Caroline, Legalchick and Meg. The people who have come on here moaning.. Well lets not worry about them (they are not worth it) Lulu has proved herself to this season and throughly deserved her win. Have you ever thought that the wrong leg may of been penalised but her conf and Ride may have been that good that they outweighed a little blip? And I'm sure the ground didn't help her, would like to see any of you on foot try to go around that ring better!

Well done Caroline, Lulu and Rob and Sarah - I'm absolutely thrilled for you all. I shall be there to watch your class at HOYS. People will always criticise - I never forgot the comments about my coloured Masterpiece yearling, when she won her class and stood reserve champion at a county show - she is an absolute star and so well behaved it's untrue. I heard afterwards she didn't deserve to win - she was too robotic!!! Caroline, there will always be people out there to criticise, and one word springs to mind JEALOUSY - you just enjoy your win and look forward to seeing your girl in her rightful place at HOYS.

Lulu has proved herself to this season and throughly deserved her win. I think this sums it up. Lulu has proved herself beyond our wildest dreams. For people "like us" to win the novice hack class at Royal Windsor is certainly rare, if not unknown. To then qualify a 4yr old for RIHS in her first season is also testimate to the animal; her temperment and quality. We havent put Robert on board just to qualify her. (although i dont say to do that is wrong). I have no doubt that had the circumstances been different Caroline would have qualified Lulu herself and held her own at HOYS. We are very lucky to have the expertise and kindness of Rob and Sarah to now help Caroline watch her mare at least compete at HOYS. We have no expectations of placings at all. She is after all just a 4yr old and i have no doubt her winnings will come in the future. If there was any element of "luck" involved then hey - sometimes we all deserve just a bit of luck. But if anyone does deserve a break then Caroline does - so please can the few people who hide behind guest names just be pleased for once.

Well said suze, caroline and lulu both deserved luck after suffering the worst of bad luck at Stafford. Im quite sure due to the terrible circumstance caroline is now in, that lulu will have a huge following at Hoys - Best of luck and if I can be there to cheer her on I will xxxx
