I like to see a hunter pony with a leg in each corner, wide set head, powerful moving and a bit front.
I wouldnt say the last picture is a SHP, what height is it? It just doesnt have enough about it IMO and I dont like so much white whereas others may. Nice animal though just not a SHP to me.

What about this one? Not enough bone and the cannon bones are to long. IMO

Yes she is a tad light on bone, it is no surprise to me you made that comment, luckily I am fully aware of her weak points, try looking from the knee up then.

She would still do very well in SHP classes IMO because overall she has a true workman/woman stamp about her though a tad light for me but definitly not a SP made to look like a SHP.

Armada, I really like your bay and wouldn't say she is lacking bone, I personally prefere them a tad heavier but she certainly wouldnt look out of place in a shp class!!!! Beautiful head.

I can't see the photos on this thread - most frustrating filter on my work PC However I think your reply was not particularly helpful PF2, particularly in response to a young person (and the older generation don't write like that!) who is obviously very proud of her ponies. Other people have commented but given explanations for their comments; surely this is the way to encourage and teach the younger generation. I have found the rest of this thread interesting, although frustrating until I can get home and see the accompanying photos! I know someone with a 5yo 128 SP who has matured this summer and has also made the most of the grass (she is now on restricted grazing as has been doing too well ) She has been told to put the pony into SHP classes now that she's so chunky, but to me, she's definitely a chubby (NOT obese!) SP, not enough bone for a SHP. It is harder sometimes when the ponies are young, especially if you see photos of them without knowing their age.

Iluvmyponies - I would say that your bay is a SHP, would say coloured pony has a lot of filling out to do, but of course that is expected as she is only a 4 year old.
Best of luck.

Nobody think mine are shp type then?? .I know a couple are in the rough and not plated but you can still see their bone , any comments ?/ I would say your grey could possibly be a bit too native-y to do top level shp, he looks a bitlike my grey pony, who is a sec A, we could get away with doing good quality local stuffand local aff shows but not exactly hoys potential The small bay I would say no, too light weight all over, not enough bone or depth, but very smart pony really like him The big bay one looks like he should be a nice stamp of a hunter pony but not sure about the bigger ones as I honestly don't take much notice of those classesas we are still in 12 and 13 handers

Shouldn't anything with 'hunter' in the name be able to do a days hunting or look like it? Having watched a few classes, some of these ponies just don't move, and you know too well they wouldn't cope in the field! Although there are a few good ones out there still! Chiddock Spot On is one of my faves

Thanks Alot of judges obviosley think so xx I think bran is a nice SHP. Toby - is to much like a sec a for me. He has that native look about him . He is a lovely local level SHP though. Puzzle - Is a nice pony just needs to fill out and then she would look more show hunter like. 3 lovely ponies - Good Luck with them

I agree Bran for me as well - its a shame the real SHP seem to be disappearing now - but I think SP and SHP seem to be becoming one and the same in many classes - more riding ponies some times

I agree Nici my Lillipie is most def a SP and not an SHP as her legs are to fine and her movement to showy. Even though she has matured and filled out ( a little to much on her belly) she will never make an SHP and she has the legs of a ballerina! lol xxx

Sorry to disagree with those that have put up photos, but these are not chunky SHs, though they are lovely ponies.
Interesting that people agree with the issue put by the thread and are convinced their own ponies do meet the criteria, but in fact they don't. Obviously education is needed and that has to be with the judges.

Would you consider this 12h childs pony to be suitable for SHP classes if we trimmed and plaited? Thanks

Sorry, too pony-ish/welshy for me. A show hunter pony doesn't need to be pretty - more workmanlike in appearance is my criteria.

Hi, what has the 12hands bit got to do with it? sorry, but have seen some real quality shp at under 12 hands! or "not up to height" to put it properly!
Looked beyond the hair, as always, nope still cant see it!
