Any news from Builth? Particularly interested in lot 5 Pyrgll Danny Boy ( fancied him last year) and lot 234 Pendock Holly (nice old breeding!) Would be lovely to hear that the Criccieth ponies have found good homes!!!
Edited to change title.

Haha, well he knows about 3 of them, the 4th is a mini shetland companion so hopefully he won't notice him! Anyway, I've scored lots of brownie points as have turned one of the stables into storage

Prices were very poor werent they, people got some bargains there today. I saw one gorgeous little grey(practically white) section b go through and they couldnt get £100 for it. Anyone know what 168 sold for?

Oh Whisper75, do you know which lot number that was? Was the Pendock mare there? Did many sell? Hope the poor prices make people think before covering all their mares this year!!!

Pendock Holly looked really lovely and went to two very excited little girls who were jumping up and down and hugging each other as their grown ups bought her. Don't know who they are but she looks as if she will be loved to pieces. She made £700

I helped my friend buy 5 of the Criccieth ponies, they are in poor condition, but they all traveled back to our farm and we got back at 11pm last night. The poor things have had a traumatic time and were all tucked up in a large barn with plenty of food and bedding. The prices of all the lots was simply awful and I found myself very emotional, such beautiful animals going for such poor prices.
The 5 ponies we purchase cost £125 in total... .One nice filly being £60 The cheapest was £5 that went through the ring. We found out later that we were bidding against the Meat man. If we had known, we could have bought a few more.....
I absolutely stunning Dun Section D gelding, 3 white stocking and a blazing, show condition. Hacking and schooling, only made £550. Stunning 3/4yo unhandled/halter broken section D's mares, gelding and colts that we all in very good condition, lovely muscle tone and weight and actually very smart looking cobs - these were going for as little as £180, I think the most paid for one of these mares that was bred in the purple as £600..
I know that one purchaser bought over 40 animals! I don't know if he was a dealer or meat man........
All in all, a very sad affair. :-(
The ponies that we saved, will have a good live now... they will be produced for the show ring if they are good enough. Broken to ride or harness and found lovely homes.

really sad that ponies have made such terrible money, I just hope that people will stop breeding for a while as people have not the money to pay reasonable prices, with the economy in bad shape, fuel prices and hay prices no one wants them! I had hoped a few years ago to breed dartmoors, I have a stallion and bought a mare we had a lovely colt foal who is now two, I had hoped to continue and build up a stud but with poor prices I have decided not to bring anymore into the world where they might end up at the meat man in the future, I have the colt and would not part with him for anything, but you can't keep them all, STOP BREEDING, this is the only way to raise prices for the future and only breed from the best .

Its heartbreaking I am glad I never went as I have got some empty fields at the moment god knows how many I would of come home with I have moved my stallion and just let him have one mare to keep him happy this yr and will continue to do so until the market improves breeding at the moment seems pointless

Please look at the photos on saddlesaop under Section A & B's of the poor Sunwillow mare. How can this be allowed time and time again at an official Welsh Pony and Cob Society sale?
Hope I'm ok putting that on here?

I've just looked at the pictures. What a bl***y shame for her. The man is a disgrace. The WPCS should be ashamed of themselves for letting this man get away with this for so long. I remember when i was small at Clwyd him letting the ramp down in the ring and a load of wild and frightened foals falling down the ramp, not long after the rule came in that they must be halter broken. If i'd of gone i wouldnt of been able to keep quiet. Thought the WPCS had a welfare officer? clearly not.

lillcob, we too remember that Clwyd sale. Fancy an association being more forward thinking than it's mother society in having a ban on unhandled ponies after that incident.

WPCS need to act about this, although i doubt they will.
Who bought the mare? What is the point of him overbreeding like this, saw that some went for as little as £5. Were these foals microchipped?

Did anyone complain to the auctioneers as well as any of the welfare authorities and the WPCS? I truly do not know how anyone can see such sights and not do something about it.

I couldnt see the photo on Saddlesoap either, but from what they are all saying on there the ponies from Criccieth were in a disgraceful state and that there are still over a 100 ponies still in the stud
