I was there and to be honest the criccieth ponies looked rough in the way of having tangled manes and tails and where dirty and hairy, I only saw one in the sale that was thin, and that was the mare with the foal on her. I agree though I didnt realise Criccieth had such a reputation.....

I know this is slightly different but similar if you see what I mean!!!! I went to Fayreoaks in 2009 with Ladybird. There was a man selling chickens and ducks there and they were in an absolutely disgusting state, crammed into tiny cages, several were dead and as stiff as boards and he hadnt noticed, they had no water and were lying/standing in filth. We offered to help him water them but he said he was ok ( he seemed very pleasant!!! ). We went and reported him to Brightwells staff and nothing was done . By all accounts the Criccieth stud regularly send large numbers of ponies to official WPCS sales that are in a very poor state and nothing is ever done about it

The stud has a website, there are 3 pics on the for sale page, the ponies in the middle of the 3 pics are very bony with visible hips and spines....................

That is appalling! I feel sick to the stomach. What a disgrace. The WPCS should be embarrassed, this is shocking. I wasn't there but if I had i would of been at the desk having a hairy fit about this!

Oh my lord, how can he sleep at night, I cannot sleep atm as we have a pony thats not well and dropped some weight but he looks obese compared to that poor mare, WPCS and Brightwells should be doing something about this, is embarrassing to be part of a society that allows this to be ok

I might got shot down for this but buying these ponies only feeds the trade in misery. While people will buy, they will still breed.

I will write, that mare looks at deaths door, how on earth would you think it ok to take her to a sale with her foal, she should be in a warm stable being nursed to prevent her from dying!!! He should be banned from breeding if this is what he thinks is acceptable and normal, god your horse or pony would be in the willy vet being nursed 24/7 if they were in that bad a state!!! I will definately be complaining as I am fed up with over breeding of these poor wee souls, why can they not just STOP

This poor Criccieth pony in the photo is Sunwillow Hernani ( Roseilse Pandy Tudyr / Sunwillow Approdite by Waxwing Hillbilly) Apparently this beautiful mare has gone to a good home.

I was appalled at the state of these poor ponies, I'm guessing these were the better ones at the sale, what on earth would the others be like back at the stud Something should be done, especially at this kind of sale it's not on. There were some nice ponies going for not a lot of money.

bottoms fallen out of the market, regarding the poor prices - I wonder if it will be a wake up call for those that breed too many or breed for the wrong reasons........

I am appalled and will be contacting the WPCS, RSPCA and the BHS in the morning, as I hope you all will be. Im sorry to say that nothing will be done. I reported this horrible man afgter visiting his stud... dead foal s in the field, lame, twisted legged mares with foals on them skin and bones, feet never trimmed, mares running wild with the foals trying to catch up with them..running through the barbed wire that had fallen part down, and being told that"the fittest will survive". hey had already inspected the stud earlier on in the year and new what he was doing. All they did was advise him to have there feet done. You should visit his place you would kill him seeing how he keeps them he is a disgrace

If it was any of us we would have been prosecuted, yet he is allowed to get away with it time and time again. Really riles me.

I would think if enough people contacted the relevant parties and maybe a national newspaper, along with the nag & dog some action may result? Regardless of who, what, where, NO ANIMAL SHOULD BE MISTREATED and PHYSICALLY ABUSED it requires action not words.

OB that's why I don't go to sales as I know I to would do the same and buy the poor soles but knowing they will only be replaced with more poor deserpate souls. I sickens me and breaks my heart so I chose to stay away. I will not get much sleep tonight thinking of those poor ponies wet, cold and starving stood in his grim filled fields.

I have all 3 photos saved of the mare, my comments on SS werent appreciated, so its been locked. If anyone wants copies please pm, although they are similar to the other one published. If anyone is wondering this mare is approx 10 years old so not elderly, and was in reasonable condition in November when she returned to Criccieth from her lease home.

This man is an absolute monster and this isn`t new to him, he`s been treating his ponies like this for many, many years! Before I knew what this mans reputation was as far as animal husbandry goes, he loaned a stallion of mine, the stallion was Coed Coch Superstar, the absolute apple of my eye - I had spoken to Mr Evans many times and found him to be a very personable man and certainly very knowledgeable and I knew he had some wonderful bloodlines in his stud and I agreed to let him have Supe`s for a few weeks to compliment his breeding, Supe`s went to him in show condition, I rang Mr Evans regularly to check up how my boy was and was told he was fine and doing well! After he`d been there for a couple of months and Mr Evans had made a couple of excuses as to why I couldn`t have Supe`s picked up I was relating this to a friend who said "He`s making excuses, get Supe`s home!"- at this my heart dropped to my stomach as at no time did I ever think Supe`s health was in danger (he wouldn`t have left here if I had!), I immediately made a few `phone calls and a friend picked him up the next day for me....upon arrival back at their yard, they dropped the ramp and my gorgeous, beautiful boy was standing there with his head to the floor- they hadn`t dared tie him up as he was so weak they feared he might stumble and hang himself, I have never seen a pony so thin still alive! My Partner and I both cried all of the way home and for a good while it was touch and go whether Supe`s would even survive...every bone on his body was protruding, his ribs, his hips, his shoulders, his withers everything, he was literally skin hung on bone, his coat was matted and filthy and his feet were long and broken- when eventually we were able to get Mr Evans on the `phone (he wouldn`t answer for three days!), he agreed with everything we said to him, he knew the pony hadn`t been looked after, he knew he`d been neglected and yet he still does this now to his own ponies....some THIRTEEN YEARS AGO!!! EVERY time reports are made about the condition of this mans ponies I go through the same old thing trying to get action taken, yet noone wants to listen, yes people get outraged and upset but they don`t actually DO anything and certain elements even PROTECT and DEFEND him...to me that makes them as bad as he is! I have undergone many attacks from supporters of this man, some have even joined forums specifically to attack me and send me vile messages, but I for one will never forgive or forget what he does to his poor ponies, what he`s done for many years and what he will continue to do- the man is lowlife scum and an absolute disgrace and he isn`t going to change now....as for the posting which says they only saw one poor pony of his entered at the sale, all I can say is I have many photo`s here of ponies there at the sale who were all in a FAR from acceptable condition! I shall now sit back and wait for the onslaught from his lapdogs, but you know what, BRING IT ON, I am not a defenceless animal who can`t help herself, I have hard and fast facts and PROOF to back me up! Edited to say if anyone wants to see the photo`s of what Mr Evans from Criccieth Stud did to the wonderful stallion Coed Coch Superstar, message me.

The Brightwells auctions used to be well respected sales, well i regarded them as such any way, with horses being allowed to be entered in such a state im sure the reputation of these sales will diminish to nothing and theyll soon become like the hundreds of back alley sales where this is the norm month in month out. in regards to the vet that passed them fit for sale....im taking a guess to say it would be the same vet as the royal welsh vet??

Supes i completely agree with you. How anyone can give you abuse to you is beyond me, they are as bad as he is. He will probably continue to get away with it.
If everyone who witnessed the terrible state and who has photographs reports this man surely action will be taken.
