I think it is not just about the welfare rules but also money - the welfare charities just do not have enough resources to take in every equine that needs their assistance hence they may be keener to try and give owners more chances to improve their care and not take in animals unless they really are on deaths door.
I hope the welfare charities are able to make a difference to these ponies and I shall certainly be donating to which ever one manages to get them out of the terrible place they are in.
It took quite a big effort to get the spindles farm horses out despite numerous calls to the RSPCA.

Squarepants - meetings of Council are private although normal regular ones can be attended by members, don't know about emergency ones though. And in all honesty I don't think it would be constructive to have a reporter there anyway, they need freedom to discuss matters freely in private. Even at the top political levels important meetings are in private, we've all seen the following press conferences afterwards where a statement is read and press questions asked.
llmum - nothing is fully registered by the WPCS unless its sire has been licensed, which includes putting its DNA on record. Mares are not DNA tested routinely but could be if there was any question of the validity of the breeding of the offspring.
As regards Welsh registration - armada has beaten me to it but that's not the whole story - nowadays they have to be microchipped by a vet and the microchip barcode goes on the form before it goes back. The vet should check the markings etc of the pony against those given on the form, or the vet can do them. Then if all is well you will be sent the passport by WPCS.

I was just on the BHS website to send an email and out of interest looked at their responsible breeding campaign - they are trying to raise money to help stop this sort of thing happening but it looks like they have only raised £15. www.justgiving.com/drawingthelineBHSPerhaps some of us who cannot take in a pony might be able to afford to make a small donation.

I forgot about the micro-chipping sarahp as we have'nt had a foal since it became compulsory, we have that to look forward to this year!

An excellently written letter Linzy D - perhaps it should be modified and also sent to DEFRA, Minister of the Horse, Seerad, and the Welsh Assembly?

I think if the charities felt they had financial back up for the aftermath of taking on these ponies maybe they would move quicker.
Thinking and typing, so may not make sense, but i for one would donate feed and money if i thought it would quicken things up a bit. If i could find who these ponies would go to if seized, then would you all dig deep to donate to the charity when they were taken there?

www.sunwillowstud.com/ I know we have all seen the photos now but as a breeder I find this short simple statement heartbreaking. Not all breeders are the same its about time the good are identified from the bad somehow.

I thought that it was illegal to keep ponies in these conditions, I was under the impression that the RSPCA had an obligation to go and take the necessary action when informed of abuse, why are they getting off so lightly. I do think both the vet and Brightwells should have reported these cases to the authorities, but as for letting them be sold on the day I think it seemed the lesser of 2 evils.

Oh my God, I didn't dare look before but I did this time. I cannot bear it. I shall continue to email, but if the lady that bought the mare did out of pity and cannot really keep her, please please could she contact me for I have empty fields, spare stables, am comfortable and can offer that girly shed loads of love for the rest of her life.

The little mare is unrecognizable from her former glory picture.

The lady who has bought this poor mare, will have her back in peak condition as soon as possible I am sure. I think we will all be looking at the after pics quite soon.
A fantastic letter to WPCS just what is needed, can't wait to see the reply !

The lady who bought the sunwillow mare has more land than most of us, is extremely experienced in producing ponies to the very highest standards, going to RIHS, Olympia and HOYS every year. She has a very small and select stud with a HOYS cuddy winning stallion and is not at all phased by the job of restoring Hernani to her former glory. She doesnt need rescuing to another home.

I think it says on the facebook page that Redwings are involved in this situation, the best thing people can do who wish to make a financial contribution is donate to the rescue organisations if and when these ponies are removed from the care of Mr. Evans.

Hey people, Terry Court is saying Evan Evans is ill and he`s `helping the old boy out` but on sorting through papers today I came across a catalogue for a Criccieth Reduction sale held at Ruthin Market in 1997.....the reason for the reduction sale? EVAN EVANS ILL HEALTH! So he`s been playing that card for AT LEAST 14 years now....it also states that Criccieth Stud is probably the largest Registered Stud of Welsh Mountain Ponies in Wales ...and yet only 65 ponies were entered (I say only 65 as that time he had well over 300 ponies!)! That Sales brochure has now been scanned over to a friend who is going to publsih it on all the necessary websites!

Lizzy that is an excellant letter and I think some of the general points raised could be also be raised with other breed societies even if they don't have a problem now to try to prevent a problem in future.

Thats great, at least if they say ill health, we have something to prove how long it's been going on! S&O, i think the person who bought the mare is very happy with her and she is in very capable hands. There may be many more we can all offer homes to though! x

Fantastic letters Linzy, I too will edit and post - I expect WPCS, Brightwells, etc, etc, expect everyone to stop shouting after the initial outcry, but we must not!!!! If they think we will give in, roll over and shut up, they are mistaken! We must fight hard for change, it can be done...
I am going to start a thread will contacts, whether they are email, address, phone number or other. I will ask the mods to pin it and possibly lock it, should anyone have any to add, if we ask the mods nicely I'm sure they will add them :-)
