Because they cannot find nps judges, which is a load of rubbish.

I think that it is a shame. So many people have posted on here that they are going to NPS champs this year instead of PUK. I reckon that SWPA may regret dropping NPS qualifiers. I know that finding judges can be difficult, but surely not that difficult??

Maybe it's far more political than we know? Who is on their committee?

I am sure the committee is made up of the family plus one other showing family They run the organisation, they book the judges, they show their own ponies, they judge some classes themselves all very in house i think

well if your all so worried about judges , classes and committee . why not join and offer your experience? have been to some of these shows and yes it can be a long day , but they try to cater for every one so stop winging .

They used to attract alot of entries to when they held NPS classes, classes seem some what flat now Don't you mean empty ? Could be a very nice show, has been in the past, but such huge no of classes, rings spread from here to christmas and parking a fair way from the rings. It could all be so much nicer and less hard work for themselves if they would just downsize a bit. Moving from NPS to PUK qualifiers won't help their entries but I'm afraid it will help those members of family who show there to qualify that much easier. Not sour grapes I do not intend going to PUK champs. As for the comment of helping at the shows, over the years I have done more then my fair share at helping out at shows so I am letting some younger folks take over.

gosh some people get easy bees in their bonnets ! ha ha ha i go to SWPA shows and they the friendliest around and most fun days out, never once experienced facy judging and never see a bad judge there twice, unlike any NPS show i've ever been to!!!! if it is only a small committee then they must work v hard

Many years ago I joined SWPA and went to several of their shows, they were rather shambolic, too many classes (many only had 1 or 2 entries or none) parking too far away from rings, competitors not kept up to date with change of rings etc. Although I was a member I received no info about commitee member elections! Do not get me wrong, the family who run SWPA work very hard, I have run shows and know what hard work it is, but quality is better than quantity. I have not been to any of these shows for 3/4 years and now they do not have NPS I certainly won't, perhaps SWPA should take note of comments, downsize and try to 'win' back NPS

Have just looked at their "Welsh show" schedule for 10th june. they have a 151 classes and that doesn't include the championships!!!!!!!!!! Little wonder some classes are still being run at 8-9pm in the evening.
Even NPS area 29 only has 80 classes and thats their main show of the year!!

I went to the AGM along with many others, and was openly invited to go on the committee along with all other people that were there. We were introduced to the five families that run the association and listened to reports on lots of things like why SWPA dropped NPS classes [which was lack of local judges, lack of entries in NPS classes and high cost of affiliation]. The move to drop these classes was proposed and seconded from the floor, so where were you all to object to it? All members are sent a copy of the AGM agenda and as a disco and meal was laid on for everyone it was by no way an unpleasant evening to go to. So why not join up and be an active member of your own local championships rather than moan behind their backs. I like going to SWPA shows for the friendly atmosphere and, like someone else said - non facey judging and plenty of classes. If you don't like their shows don't go.

Like many others that frequent this site I have to sell outgrown ponies to fund the next for my children, and try to buy the best I can afford and in order to get at least my purchase price back these ponies have to be kept in the lime light and what I have found and this is only my opinion is that prospective purchasers of today couldn't give a hoot if your pony has qualified or won at SWPA or PUK, they want the ponies that qualify or have been placed at Olympia or HOYS, even the RIHS these days does not seem so important to them, maybe this is because of so many more ponies can qualify for the RIHS due to double the amount of qualifiers there are ? but going back to the thread of SWPA shows, I'm sure the people who attend these shows realise it's not a very prestigious event but are happy to win a red rosette even though there is little competition and have some fun, I however don't feel any satisfaction in kidding myself and would far rather take on the bigger shows and know within myself that whatever prize I got was deserved be it first or last as your up against the very best in the country, and before you shoot me down this is only my opinion. I think what I'm trying to say is winning at SWPA or PUK does little for the value of your pony. PS. I still have fun at the big shows

Didnt those producers named above bring their ponies specifically for the Puk premier qualifier that Swpa had last summer?
My Partner has taken ponies there in the past but think she would only take novices there now for an outing if there was no where else on - dont think she would take her open ponies.
If they cut down on the classes, and concentrated on quality not quantity might be a better show.

8-)Have taken cts advice and emailed SWPA for an answer. Will let you all know. I agree shows are very friendly but that hasn't or wont change as to which qualifiers surely. Reduce number of classes BUT BRING BACK NPS QUALIFIERS!!!!!!!

cts did you know that when you use the 'Post Reply' (not the quick reply) button there is actually a Spell Check button you can use before you submit? Heres my tip for the day: If you dont like SWPA Shows, save pounds by not going and just go down the pub instead. Thats what I'd do.
