There is a feeling sick bug going and if you eat in an attempt to feel better, you vomit. Don't say I didn't tell you.

A rat! I have one. Husband insists it is a mouse (of course WE don't have such things as rats). Well this mouse is the size of a guinea pig so needs dealing with sharp and it was seen in my chicken run.
So I don't have access to a terrier though I do have a rat box. Ideas of the best techniques/poisons bearing in mind the chickens.

Sagey rats in the chicken run are a pain we had some in the spring . I put bait down but made sure it was under the chook house [pushed it right under with a stick ] use blocks not that stuff that is corn coated with bait . Make sure there is no spilt chook food left laying about and dont leave food in a feeder out over night . If there is one there will be more you cant see . On the subject of chooks i lost my last old brown hen last night she was really old . Kids all in tears this morning as she would do this sort of wistling sound like she was chatting to you . Secretly i was quite releived though as her and her sister who i lost a little while ago were both quite thin [although they looked healthy ] and i didnt think they would last the winter . Just been to drop our foaly off to have a bit off training and be taken to a couple of foal shows . He went in the box first and was good as gold when he was lead into his stable . Within 5 minutes he was munching his hay without a care in the world

Poor chicken, but she did go before the weather turned really bad Not to sure about my Alby either. She is deformed physically with twisted feet (didn't notice when I bought her) and she has a shrivelled up comb and her wattles are pathetic. Anyway she gets about ok and lays very well but the others pick on her. She seems rather mentally compromised as well and she chooses now to moult. Her bum is bare and she looks like a baboon and her comb has screwed up more and gone rather blue. Hope she will cope. My chickens have that german Garvo professional food. I have to drive nearly an hour to source it. No wonder the bloody rat is huge! full of Garvo. Hope it is isn't in ratlet.

Went into the hardware shop to get the rat some treats. My goodness what an array of choice for your rat. You can get pasta ones and then there was ones with wholewheat. I suppose that's if you like your rat to die healthily Anyway it was lucky I came on here because I wouldn't have known which type to have so I got the blocks, them being HG recommended. There was a man beside me, also looking for rat treats, there must be a run on rats in the area. He gave me a tip for extra rat boxes to protect the animals. Cut the neck and end off lemonade and such bottles and pop the treats inside. Was obvious really, but I wouldn't have thought of it.

We have a small cat who is a very good ratter but normally she gets the younger ones . She has on occasion caught one bigger than her as well [she is only half the size of a normal cat and looks a bit siamese ] . Sagey that Garvo is meant to be really good but there is no stockists down this way , mine get smallholders layers peletts that they all love . The peletts are really small as well which is handy as i have some Japanese bantams who are tiny but the most friendly chooks possible , Louise can wheel the hens round in a dolls pram and they just sit there or they perch on her shoulder . She has been known to try to sneak them up to her room . Louise rode Nutmeg in a headcollar bareback round the paddock earlier which is a real breakthrough as she was very nervous of riding her after the disaster at Ponyclub . Thanks to Hatman for the singing tip [on the dancing SP thread ] me and Louise sang when she rode yesterday and it really helped her nerves and helped Nutmeg as she tends to pick up on her nerves . We had a nice hack and pony and child both enjoyed themselves

Wowsers Viking, thats a really stunning picture.
I wish I had a nice camera, really must put it on my christmas list. one of OH's pals has just started (well last year I think) getting into photography and he's got some nice piccys. But OH took the piddle out of him last time as his pal said 'wait til you see the birds I got on my camera whilst on holiday in the summer'.
OH went on lots of lads holidays with this pal, so was expecting a different kind of bird I think PMSL. His face was priceless, I had already guessed what was coming and knew what OH thought was coming so when he showed him a close up of a woodpecker, and then some swan babies I knew Oh wouldn't be able to resist.

It's been going for years there's a few more in the area but llanginor seem to have the best facilities and reputation and it's not all about the games if you know what I mean the kids learn all of the disciplines and they are very strict on learning properly from the start seems to be the only one in the area with a waiting list!
