well said dun4u we are going to a local riding club show this weekend taking babies out to their first show and we will be taking on board any comments that the judge makes, as I have said before the longer you have horses the less you find you know, a different view point can make you look at things in a different way. They may say that I'm fit for the knackers yard but I hope that they don't think that about the ponies

My pony will never be anything more than suitable for riding club level, so that is all we ever do is small local shows, I always value what advise the judges give to me and feel that over the last few years I and my pony have improved greatly, I am also not in a position to buy another horse/pony that would make it to HOYS etc, I feel sickened to the stomach that a judge has said this about the likes of me, I pay my entry fee in good faith but never did I ever dream that this was how judges viewed us local show goers, I am so insulted and very hurt and upset

Well peggy38, looks like you are not very popular and deservedly so. We started out showing some 20yrs ago with just the sort of pony that you are condemning. 20 yrs on that pony still means as much today as every other pony we have ever had. Have a smite from me as well for your collection.

Clampit, i can assure you that not all of us have the opinion peggy38 has. I love judging 'locals' as much as i do the affiliated shows. As i said in my earlier posting she/he has the chance to say no to the appointment but accepts which does seem slightly confusing given her/his feelings. Chin up, good luck and once again these aren't the views of everyone.

as someone that shows week in week out you get asked to judge all manner of shows from rihs to one day agg shows and even more local, local shows these are the ones i try and avoid at all costs, one horse wonders turn up with there pride and joy doing the worst job they can not wanting your well ment help and experiace thinking they know all when they cant even turn there slaughter house reject the rite way, you grt a bad burger from the greesey spoon if your lucky not for me thank you at least at the slightly bigger shows you get some stalls to look at and a WI lunch! what a horrible thing to say! Does anyone know who this person is so i dont ask her to judge for us!! Sorry computer been broke so bit behind whats been going on! Anyone like to judge for me please PM at unaffiliated show.

Oh and by the way bought a £400 pony at the age of 4 and still have him today at the age of 19. Love taking him to local shows to do the veterans and have a lot of fun! He's the best boy in the world as far as we're concerned.

Don't know which area she's from but today's comments reveal that she is able to establish blemishes on ponies from afar - uness she has fantastic eyesight or knows the pony personally!

'the showing is just a small part of his life the rest of the time he works hard at being my best friend and greatest companion.'
I so love this comment by Giddie. I think it sums up very well the reason why most of own horses and ponies.
For me personally it is the reason why that when I go home from a show (even if I have had poor results) my pony is the only pony I want to take home with me.

I judged at a show several weeks ago and had a lovely day. Rode some very different horses of differing standards and managed to only upset one person.. However it did make me go home and give my old boy a big cuddle for being the star that he is and I apologised for 'cheating' on him... told him the others meant nothing and he was the best

We rescued a horse that was due to travel 5 days from france to the slaughter house in italy last year. He would have probably died along the way. Fortunately he did not have to suffer that gruelling journey. He is now an ambassador for the live export campaign, he features every month in the horse and pony mag and has had his pic in the horse and hound. Not bad for such a 'lowly' equine. Peggy 38, you are a martyr to your profession.

Thanks overbent..... lets hope the door kicked her up the ar5e on the way out!
When I started this thread I was happy and as it went on.... I wasn't. Shame there are people about like peggy38! I started to think maybe I had worded the original thread wrongly, but as far as I can see it was written with the best intension.
Have a karma overbent for allowing peggy38 to leave!

One thing to consider here is that everone has to start somewhere - so what if they are not going to win HOYS - it is about pleasure lets not forget that !
I judged at a local show a few weeks ago and had a lovely day, the highlight of my day was the little girl in the first ridden - who insisted that she had wear pink jods! So she was technically turned our correctly - but I bet she had more fun than most !
Peggy - I hope you can reflect on the feedback you have had on here and learn not to be so critical and rude.

Pigsear, you started the thread with the best intentions and was written in the manner it was intended. Peggy 38 is a complete disgrace to this forum and the genuine, knowledgeable people who express their opinions on here, good riddance to bad rubbish, hope she gets her just desserts when one of us unknowingly judges her and her superior equines and dumps her! Local shows and their supporters enjoy them just as much, if more so than some of us enjoy the bigger shows and we all start somewhere. Without judges giving us their time and constructive comments we would never get any better - keep judging and keep 'moaning' - Peggy 38 - B*GGER OFF we do not welcome people like you here.

Think Peggy 38 could have fell down some steps after slamming the door on her way out, with any luck.

Just been reading this thread....we show, set off at locals thinking this really wasn't for us, was proved wrong, and now do BSPS and have lots and lots of FUN, even got to Hickstead. We mainly do workers, and have met some fantastic judges - they don't always like our ponies, but that's their opinion, and we love them so it doesn't matter where they stand! I'm sorry that Peggy38 feels that way about local shows - but we all do what we enjoy. If she doesn't enjoy judging at them just say No!! To all those judges who have given us such a help over our time, I just say thank you - without competitors there wouldn't be a show, but without judges we couldn't even put a show on!

We've been to a local show today & even though we didn't do brilliantly some of the judging kept us entertained & amused!!! eg, how did a pony get placed in the Hunter (horse) class? why did the in-hand BTO class have to do individual in-hand shows which were then not taken into account when placing ponies? how did we get eliminated in the WH under BSJA rules? !!!!!! Answers on a postcard!!!!!!!

Not so amused with our experience today at a local show...Due to our fr breaking her fetlock, my daughter has had to go onto next years pony early...She went in 2 classes with adults and children who were clearly older and more experienced than her...did the judge ask her her age? No...she's 9 , and quite small, you'd think they would try and encourage ....her only cutting remark.....Nice buck!!

Not really sure Lucretia - it was certainly a shock to our pony who hasn't been out of the field for 5 years!!!!!! Bit wierd really as when she judged the BTO ridden class they just had their tack inspected! Having said that, we have a 13.2 hh NF who they insisted was shown in the small breeds M&M In-hand! Might go back next month for another laugh!!!!!!

If so you can feel some satisfaction that your little girl has come through one of the worst experiences for embarassment factor and survived the jump up to a bigger class. Stuff the judge's sarcastic comment, unless you want to laugh at it and say 'Yes, my pony moves well in all ways!' You can be so proud of your little girl for her composure and manners and nobody can take that away. Well done to her!
