i have a pony for sale which i bred my self out of my riding pony mare from childhood. Lovely pony, great with kids very tollerent etc just the kind of pony i would love my kids to have when i have any! The amount of timewasters ive had is unreal. The first ones wanted her but wanted to take to her to pony club to see how she would react to it, bearing in mind this pony is only 5, green and backed last season and needs bringing on i wouldnt expect her to not explode at a event like pony club with new people and new enviroment! Next people wanted £500 off the asking price because of a splint, then they asked me if she'd been in foal i said no and she basically called me a liar and kept feeling her boobs! Then asked me who had broke her i said a close friend who is 5ft and 7 stone, she said its not possible? it is because thats what she is! needless to say i told them to get on there bike.... what happened to nice people and nice familys

Seller got back to me (2 weeks later) and said she will find out and get back to me...........never heard a thing since? Also replied to a wanted advert, didn't hear anything about that either. Why advertise something to sell/wanted then not reply? ODD PEOPLE

had this with my now 5yr old , a mother , granny and 2 young girls 7/8 yrs , to look at him , explained i'd be happy to send him away again to have him re backed , (i'd turned him away for the winter ) i got him in from the field , with them , lunged him , and all the usual to show them how good he was !!!! then the mother asked if i could pop a saddle on him to let one of the girls have a sit on him , at that point i'd decided they werent right or knowledgable enough for him , and besides the 2 girls werent really interested they were back in the yard talking to the shetlands , ----- i mean you dont just stick a saddle back on a youngster after 5 months off , and then let an unknown child get on him aaarrrrggggghhhhh

The stories i could tell you! The world has gone mad... I really cannot understand these people, they want a perfect horse in every way" whatever they perceive as perfect" For very little money and if you advertised at the amount they would want to pay nobody would respond as there must be something wrong with it!!! Very few genuine buyers out there.

How about this for a good one! Friend has a 4yo d for sale, only backed since feb so still green, bot dangerous in the slightest but very Foward, gets a phonecall from a woman looking for something for her 14yo daughter, mum wasn't horsey at all so friend explained he was only young so they'd need someone experienced to help them further his education, asked about daughters ability and was told she was a very confident rider, said he was Foward going and they said that was fine she's used to Foward. They turned up, friend rode him first, then girl wanted to ride him, shes was reminded he's only young so be sympathetic with your hands and gentle with all your aids. For a start she didn't have a clue how to get on from the ground. Eventually on she Walks around with friend on the floor, friend then says when you're ready have a little trot and a canter at which mum pipes up "she's only just learning to canter!!" girl boots pony in the ribs so he shoots off in trot, she panicked and started yanking on his mouth, she was hanging onto his mouth that tight that the martingale was making his reins go into a v shape! Pony panicked and ran off, girl precedes to hang on to his mouth, put her knees up to her chest and scream! Friend tried with no avail to get her to let go of his mouth and relax but in the end just waited for her to come off cos she just wouldn't listen! Needless to say she told them to look at ponies over the ages of ten and asked them to leave!

I always love the people who say the kids are top riders then they land they cant even do a correct rise and trot! I have a very forward pony, shes ideal games or whp but these people came, looked at her i said dont push too much shes forward going and responds to you asking her and a little gentle pushings - she nods and off she goes with the parents in the middle giving them a lesson, kid has loose reins but pushing on so pony was going very fast and she had no hold at all, finally goes into canter with no contact at all and pony goes in full pelt canter, kid hanging on i had to interveen! then told them the pony was not suitable and showed them out lol

I had one turned up, no hat, no money, kid didn't even want to ride! so we lent her a hat - with hind sight - shouldn't have done - they then went on to pick faults with a perfectly good school mistress, who was sold the next week unseen over the phone! new owners ... highly delighted

I think I was very lucky when Bridget & Megan our two little mini Shets went on loan. Only had one family come to each of them but both families turned out to be absolutely perfect. Of course as they are 34" minis I wasn't expecting experienced jockeys, but in both cases their tiny jockeys had very experienced mums and grans in tow. Both have been with their loan families for around 2 years now. I get lots of updates and pictures, and I couldn't have found more perfect homes for either of them! There are genuine people out there! And obviously a lot of muppets too

New to selling ponies but I've had some classic phone calls of late - how can someone phone up about a pony if they can't read? !!!! Have a Connie who had been out of work and needed re-starting after a bad experience on loan - very explicitly said this in the ad and to the woman on the phone who then asked if he'd be suitable for a disabled child! What???!!! Also (and I know someone else who has had this call) one woman who wanted to know if she could breed from the Connemara .......... eh hello! A gelding?! If I knew how to breed from him I'd be making millions in medical research not selling a pony! I don't like people who aren't up front with me. I go to a lot of trouble to be honest but don't appreciate keeping a pony for nearly two weeks and turning down another buyer to be told that the person doesn't have the money and will I take installments. It's a pony not a pay-as-you-go phone! I despair!

Yup had that one too had one person ask me what colour pony was when It was advertised as a Black Welsh Cob. Another that wanted a pony to do whp classes who wanted it to be under 13hh it was 13.1 she phoned every night for two weeks to ask if I could make it under 13 hh and was most offended when I finally said short of chopping its legs off at the fetlocks then no it was 13.1

I'm on the other side of the same coin and having the same problems lol!
Worse case was latelast year when we drove just under 200 miles to view a 12.2 first pony, arrived (ok we were slighly late, but only 15 mins or so and that was because I couldn't find the place!) and were shown a 15hh stallion!
I showed the guy the advert (complete with photo) comfirmed that it was him I'd spoken to the night before and we were in the right place - and he told me that he didn't have a pony to sell only this stallion horse!
Then there's the ponies who are lame, under height, over height, dont have tack so you can't try them or see them ridden and finally those that are complete nutters!
There are genuine sellers out there, we've met a few who have been very honest and genuine about their ponies, but for one reason or another my daughter hasn't been comfortable on the pony. Others whose ponies haven't passed the vetting.
I'm sure there are genuine buyers, I consider myself one (it's just so hard to match the right pony to a nervous child!).
It would appear there are id10t's on both sides lol.

I am having a major headache with someone on here( i have informed moderators) buying a pony from me, i came down in price to good home, she paid promptly...but still not collected her 6 weeks down the line or even have a date in place, now not returning my calls or texts. Legal advice has been to formally inform that i am now charging livery.
I have fields to be topped and ponies to be moved around and really could do without hassles like this. There should be a code of honour amongst us horse people, don't mess each other about!)

Buying and selling is a real nightmare, i think its even worse these days with the current economy situation, people seem to want everything for nothing, as for even just inquiring about ponies has shown how odd people can be, i think the best was a lady who was a face book friend, we have the same breed of ponies, i was told she had 2 mares for sale, so i sent her a message asking if she had, she said yes, and tried to put photos of said 2 ponies on her FB page, now it was clear she wasnt great with techno stuff, neither am i, after numerous messages back and forth she finally got 2 pics up , one with a mare & foal, the other of a mare with rider on board, but taken from the front , just couldnt see her properly , i asked which was which as i liked the look of the mare with foal, turned out mare with foal was 12 yo and too old for what i am wanting, said mare with rider didnt really show her, but maybe she had a better pic ? she replied said she did but she isnt want im looking for and took me of her FB as a friend lol, i tried to explain but i felt it was like talking to someone who didn't understand english, so seems i had upset her just as her 12 yo mare was older than what i was looking for..... LOL !!!
edited to say had she been 5 years younger, id have been there like a shot to view her ! as for the other mare I will never know has she wouldnt send a side ways on photo of the mare, as got upset as the other wasn't what i was wanting lol

i remember trying to sell an old mare of mine, she was a 15yo PC school mistress, fighting fit and jumping big tracks, never sick or sorry, a gem to handle but not a 1st pony, very wizzy and loved her work. had a chap get in touch asking if i would consider a long term loan to a good home, i said i might. send multiple pictures, videos, full history, breeding every possible detail you could imagine. they said they wanted an allrounder, bit of pony club and workers, daughter was very capable with a couple of other ponies. all sounds good, asked did they want to view as only local, they asked to see her at a show. i didnt have transport but agreed to see what i could do, arranged a lift to an unaffiliated sj competion, sent them date, time and location, they confirmed they would meet us there. never turned up and didn't ever hear off them again!!

I am so fed up with timewasters, picture collectors, serial emailers and texters, tyre kickers, people phoning me up just to tell me how marvellous their own horse/horses is/are (if they are so marvellous why are they looking for another?), nit pickers, know alls, low offerers 'due to the present climate' types, etc, etc, etc I have resorted to sending my beautiful sane, talented mare to a yard to sell on my behalf!!! When the poor mare is sold I am giving horses up for good as dont want all this hassle ever again!!

Yep, time wasters- its not just selling but loaning too. I have just 'interviewed' someone for our amazing lead rein pony who irritated me in the end- by saying limply ' I suppose the perfect pony is just not out there for us...he is a bit green..' ahem welsh A, 6 year old, unspoilt, (from the AMILAS STUD!!!!) and she says 'oh isn't that the one that shut down and had a dispersal sale recently'.OH DEAR!.... so there he is, just standing in sun, with tiny child , off lead rein at time dozing......after doing his careful shuffle trot. After letting a 6 year old pick his feet out, groom him- he is the best pony I have met in my 43 years and will NEVER be sold. and she called him GREEN, and announced she will never find the perfect pony..!! is she MAD? Does she want the honour of loaning him or not?!!!!!!! There are some right silly people out there, nice, but need to realise a good thing when they see it! hey ho, onwards and upwards with the next 10 we have to interview!!!
