"The tendon and muscle structure in the foreleg"
Which particular structures?
"There is scientific proof that a fit athlete ( human and hoss) is taller than an unfit one!"
Let's see the references.

I have to agree with the jmbsec I have not known many of the youngsters I have had grow much after their 4/5 yr they might deepen / broaden but actual height at the wither , no . My 8yr old measured the the same in his 6th /7th year and only varied by a mm or two as a 5yr old but he really did mature.

JMBsec
are you being obtuse? Do I really have to dig up research (which you should know about anyway) to prove a point in a debate ( when you do not provide your proof either!)
With or without scientific evidence ( and yes when I am not so busy I will find it) do you not think it obvious that a fit toned athlete ( human or equine) stands taller? Foe example it is also fact that people are taller in the morning!

I am interested to know please JMB, what number/percentage of the recently recalled animals measured bigger (or for that matter smaller) on remeasurement. Also the same question for those animals recalled having originally been measured by a certain vet in Essex?
Thankyou.

A don't think these statistics will be very helpful as it seems to me that a large % of animals have not been re-presented - this will skew the results.

sageandonion - that info will have to remain confidential, at least for the time being.
"Do I really have to dig up research (which you should know about anyway) to prove a point in a debate "
Yes. I gave the results of 200+ of the JMB animals and every article/book on horse anatomy will confirm the fusion of growth plates..
"With or without scientific evidence ( and yes when I am not so busy I will find it) do you not think it obvious that a fit toned athlete ( human or equine) stands taller? Foe example it is also fact that people are taller in the morning!"
Is it obvious? - other than slouching/bending knees etc or standing up straight a person cannot get any taller or shorter as there are is a complete unalterable boney column between sole of foot and top of head. Forget the morning height in man - that's down to lying horizontal all night and then compressing the discs in the spine when we stand during the day. Therefore always compare height in man at a set time each day. Perhaps fit athletes spines/discs are less compressible (I doubt it). None of this is relevant in the horse.

What has been really lovely to see at last weeks BSPS Championships was that some of the ponies that have measured out of their original classes have gone on to do really well in their new sections in some instances being champion and continuing to give much pleasure to their young jockeys. Well done to all of you after what must have been a difficult time.

Moderators - should we start another thread on growth rate of horses and ponies and move some of these messages to it?? Proboards don't give us an option to transfer posts - we either keep them or delete them I too have ponies who have grown after their 5th birthday (all Fells) but none of them have needed to be measured. My coloured was measured earlier this year and has definitely grown since - I wouldn't be surprised if she's grown a full inch.

Howard has made a very valid point about the true birth age of a horse/pony and its actual growth. i.e. we are all used to using 1st Jan for TBs and 1st April for others. If we look at real birth dates, some of which are`well past both of these, are growth rates more or less? And when we talk about "show condition" or "fit" do we really think that this can make a difference to the measurement taken at the point of wither? Right now probably the only body that has consistent info regarding age vs. growth is the JMB so to be able to challenge this would require data collection in a manner consistent with that. Boring but ultimately this is all going to come down to statistics. IMO there are still too many overheight animals being presented and this DOES NOT make them better, if anything they lose type but courage is required to put them down.

what do people think of society officials commenting on this site but using a pseudonym, i personally think that if you are a paid official of any organisation you should say so i,d like to get some sort of idea what the site thinks basically should they be allowed to comment without being responsible

As far as I am aware jmbsec is what it says and not a pseudonym unless you have someone else in mind.

for what it is worth i think the fact that the jmbsec comes on here and replies is to be applauded BUT i agree with Jelly cube there is a poster on here ( and is on quite allot) who is i believe a jmb person i do not think they should be doing that -- is it not morally wrong?

Back in harness!
"if you are a paid official of any organisation you should say so "
Why? Most contributors have a conflict of interest and only a few profess (which may be untrue) to have a totally independent view unrelated to their own prestige or financial interests. Read the messages and make up your own mind whether any are worth considering, believing, dismissing or woth replying to.
There are only two paid officials in the JMB and I am the only one daft enough have joined horsegossip.
Those forum members with backbone will identify themselves, all others will hid behind silly nicknames!

Not an official email linked to the jmbonline. The mods checked that one out after the first jmbsec post. I cannot speak for anyone else but I for one would rather have a direct line (so to speak) for questions and answers than have to be going through the office all the time for answers.

I think it is marvellous to have this direct link to JMB. You have an answer to your question, usually within the day and you can see the answers to all the little niggly things you really wanted to know but didn't dare ask!
I do hope JMB finds it equally as useful and doesn't seem to mind a bit of JMB bashing from time to time.

Thanks.

the jmb sec is clearly who he is no one can have a problem with that
but the question he should be asking himself is "are there any of my officials or stewards commenting on this site " and if there is : why doesn,t he know about it: and what he would do about it if he was informed
over to you jmbsec

Could't care less if any officials (we do not have any - do you mean official measurers?) or JMB stewards do comment, everybody is entitled to their opinion.
Would you explain why you have a problem with any Officials of anything commenting anonymously or otherwise. Perhaps you are the director of a jelly baby company. Who cares?

Jellybabe - you might like to re-read what you've written.... How really rude!
Are you an official? Of what? What is your real name? What is your interest in this matter? Why does the origins of the other users potentially irritate you so much?
Let's hear your full credentials, and THEN we might understand things a bit clearer.
Thank you.

Perhaps you are the director of a jelly baby company. Who cares? Oh JMBSEC that is a touch of brilliance, really cheered up my day! I seem to recall that earlier in this thread or the first thread a member was asked if they worked for the JMB - they said no, is this what Jellybabe refers to maybe and either way does it matter

There has been much discussion on this thread about the age at which equines stop growing. Some people appear to be quite knowledgeable about the subject. I wondered, therefore, if someone could enlighten me as to how an animal can appear to increase in height by 5cms after a full height certificate has been issued. Could it be the JMB website is erroneous in its reporting of remeasurement heights?
Over to you JMB.
