As far as I'm concerned, a judge needs to see the horse/pony, not be dazzled by over the top accessories. Less is more IMO, if your pony is good enough it will catch the judges eye for all the right reasons. Plus I personally think it can look a bit tacky. Much sooner see a pony looking classy, and understated.
Bit of fun for the youngsters in an evening performance is all well and good, but my own view is that's where it should stay.

I think when the kids are little L/R - F/R it's a bit of fun for them, it makes them feel like princesses. To see too much bling on the bigger ones is a no, less is more. I like the pink too, my daughter does F/R she has pink browband, button hole and hairbows. Someone at a show said too me yeah like the pony hate the pink. Well she is only 6yrs and I don't care what people think as long as she is happy xxxx

I'm afraid I have had more than a sblack person at some of the creations atop some ponies. I think perhaps these poor kids will look back at their photos in a few years time and be mortified. Combinations of bright pink tweed jackets, boufant beribboned hair, huge browbands, acres of pig oil, fat legs in canary jods! More suited to the circus. Decorum est morte!

I'm happy to stick to my little hairy Shetland ponies with their plain hunter bridles! My daughter does have a bright red tie with gold stars, as our little touch of bling! No diamantes though - and she has loose tied 10mm ribbons in her plaits, not huge pre-tied bows.
I really couldn't cope with a blingy show pony!

Well as a ''bling browband'' maker/supplier im not complaining if people want ott bling on their browbands. We simply do browbands and have just started to do silk stocks (plain ones i might add). I myself love the bling in the evening performance on the browband on my plaited boy and my browbands are far from tacky. I do admit though that ones i have seen do look very tacky when glitter and sequins have been added. We use the finest diamante crystals from australia and have had nothing but compliments. I too had one of the diamante ribbon browbands when they first came out 10 yrs ago and still have it. In the daytime the bling should be toned down more but i dont see why in the evening it cant be blinged up, glitter for me is a no no though. For the concours classes i think the bling looks great to. Each to their own with the 'bling' but if its good enough for the australians to wear on their gorgeous horses/ponies then dont see what the problem is over here. Lets face it, some bling on a browband isnt going turn a quality horse/pony into a non quality one is it. Its all a bit of fun people & maybe showing should lighten up a little!!! ;D

We show m&m's and plaiteds. I must admit I prefer primping the plaiteds, but even they are minimal bling... apart from the evening performance, and my inner Dame Edna Everage surfaces, and I can't help myself! Oh am so with you on this one! my inner self keeps yelling " Bling up the Connie" - even if it is just for hacking out! - as a child there was nothing like this and the most exciting thing I owned were blue plaited nylon reins for our PC team games ---- I was a deprived child ! I so desperately want to " PIMP MY RIDE"

Bling is just fine for at home or at fun shows for kids or little pony club show jumping leagues or whatever. But in the show ring it shouldn't be allowed! I personally just keep it plain and simple and then I can use everything I have in the showring I wouldn't waste my money to be honest but this is only my opinion, I do have a very nice saddlecloth I love with diamonte and our names on but would never show in it!! That is all I own in the bling department! My poor boy is deprived to plain black tack and a plain black numnah ::)and he doesn't get to wear that in the showring either! I might get him a nice blue one next time he needs it

Bling in the showring is one thing - but lighten up you die hard experienced showing hard nut peeps and remember there is more to ponies than showing them - try something a little " different in private" Sense of humour seriously required for this thread ----------------- BLING UP THE NATIVES

i would personally send out a blinged up native. fair do's at home or mayb unaffiliated but i'm talking about HOYS.
The point in this was not to say that bling is a bad thing- just it is getting abit out of control and the coordination of some colours and diamantes just don't work, especially in RIHS hack classes where pink and red apparently go together and you literally can't see ribbon because of the crystal banding
perhaps something to bring up a the next comittee meetting

Bling has got a bit wild in the showring - sadly its not confined to the ponies - I have seen some wildly " blinged up" kids, bedecked in large ribbons/bows/scrunchies - obviously some mums didnt have dollies to dress up when they were kids.

Dont see the problem with bling diamante banding on a browband, each to their own. There are more horrific sights in the showring these days than a blingy browband. Its not harming you is it so why moan about it!!

It's down to personal taste at the end of the day - personally I don't like it on any horse, but if other people like it that's their business!

I love to see abit of sparkle on a show pony or first ridden, these are kids ponies and we all know kids love bling and pink etc...
But on horses I think a tonne of diamante stuck on its browband is a bit silly, its sposed to complement your horse not hide it under an inch of ribbon and diamonds.

Often too much bling can be a distraction to judges and spoil a lovely picture. Ponies and horses often find too much decoration uncomfortable and consequently shake their heads. Often less is better!!!

Our show ponies are kept to a bare minimum. Nice but tasteful browband, matching pony, rider and leader, done very simply and most certainly no lipstick on children!

We have just done an identical one for a customer - she saw the picture in H and H . It was delivered to her on wed and she is absolutely delighted with it - PM me if you would like more info .

I judged a young man on a lead-rein poy the other day - he will without doubt look back on the photos with horror, in years to come. The 'buttonhole' which was pinned on was the most massive piece of bling I think I have ever seen - ok, so it was co-ordinating - but poor, poor lad to be expected to wear something so 'girly' and so gigantically oversized. Why oh why don't they save the money and spend it on lessons?? Oh, and make-up on small children...? well, as I have said before, that seems to be the norm. Heaven help future generations. And, I agree with Robert P-J that ponies often resent the weight of the heavily decorated browbands.

Having always been dead against bling especially on our M and Ms we gave in and bought a tie with just a few little diamantes on the top. I have to say it does look lovely on 9 year old H, who like all 9 year old girls loves bit of bling, without being over the top.
