i must have some sort of magnet attached to me that attracts idiot men. where the hell do women find these helpful men who gladly help with there horses, kids ect ect..?! ive shown every weekend this year my boyf hasn't bothered to turn up to one (one was 2 miles from his house) have had my new horse a week now and has shown no interest apart the usual questions how much was it, why do you need another.although he shows keen interest in his cousins horses!! I'm sick to death!!!and i wont even go into the exes!! moan over!!

Charliewarlie, I know just how you feel, I've tried many times & failed miserably to find one of these helpful men............ think I've more chance of winning the lottery. All my friends can find them though Have given up now & decided maybe I'm better off on my own

Better off without, or without a horsey man, that way they know nothing of the cost of anything horsey. Is the easiest way. Mine does not come with us all to the shows, he gets on with his own thing, though is interested and asks all the right questions, as well as the how much was that one too!

Mine isnt interested in the slightest, but he does PAY..........LOL
He says the horses/ponies can have averything they NEED but NOT everything I WANT ........!
We have a few rows over what is vital and what is luxury, but hey ho, it works for us xx

LOL xx My OH is like having another child. Came to a show last week watched his little girl do her first show went back to lorry and slept while I ran around looking after 6yr old 23mth old girls a puppy and the pony, he then awoke from his beauty sleep stood around waiting for his daughter to do her 2nd show then decided he wanted to go home leaving me to finish off. He did take baby with him so I can't moan too much or can I? ?? He does have his good points though xxxx

Mine isn't interested in the ponies at all, which suits me, as our daughter and I can have all our fun together while he gets on with his golf/rugby (only watching now - too old to play!)/bowls/etc. I do have to pay for everything - and I mean EVERYTHING! at the moment as he's currently unemployed. He will come and do the odd "manly" job at the farm (for example putting a new roof on my field shelter) although persuading him to come and do the finishing touches (gutters etc) is harder This week he's been taking our little girl up to the ponies every day while I've been in work, and has been mucking out/poo picking / filling water buckets for me, so he's in good books ;D

Well then Heathers you have done a jolly good job of training him up for your needs! If only all men were as easy!

he is from a farming background so horse muck is a lot better than cow muck. he lived in town when we met so he was at home and enjoyed going to the farm to help me and now does nearly all the work and loves it

my OH is a gem, sorry to gloat, he plays rugby a tuesday, wed and every sat, all the other nights he has no problem checking on the ponies, mucking out, filling water, he may get bored at some of the smaller shows but never complaines, he would even like to have a shot at showing in hand ,

been with my oh for 24 years now (found him in a vw garage in south east london...never seen a horse lol) Sorry to gloat to, but although he can be grumpy (very) at shows, he will do anything for me, the ponies, stepsons and our son, dogs cats bla bla bla, he also cooks very well and according to my friends, loves me to bits...he has also tried showing in hand, mucks out, drives the lorry, grooms, and always seems to be the one holding other peoples animals at shows....ps, he IS my second husband, obviously chose better next time round!! Lucky me!!!

You have to "interview/test run" an awful lot of dud ones, before you find the one to KEEP!
None of us SMUG happily settled ladies, I am sure, found the good ones without a long and thorough search!
Lie low, lick your wounds and enjoy your ponies for a bit. When you feel a bit better, you need to start interviewing again, but be very particular about what is important to you.
Good luck x

My husband, now my ex, used to hate taking us to shows. He was grumpy from the minute we got there til it was time to go home, unless we won a first, which was pretty rare in those days.
On one particular occasion, we were nearly all set for a LR class - child spotless, pony spotless, tack spotless and all I had to do was put my hat and gloves on. I handed him the reins and said 'don't let him get his head down, please'. I was only gone two minutes and what did I find? He was picking handfuls of lush grass and feeding it to the pony who's mouth and bit were a thick green froth. His reasoning? 'I didn't let him get his head down, though, did I?' Grrrrrr Men!!!

And that is why they should go play cricket, golf, football etc on sundays and leave us ladies to the showing! However much some of us girls like the idea of an all singing all dancing real man, who is good in all necessary departments AND can play groom, sometimes its best if that stays as a fantasy!

thinking about it probally a none horsey partner would be better, apart from none at all!! my ex never saw my horse and when i went to the tack shop i ALWAYS kept a red felt tip in the car and wrote sale on every item. he never had a clue. the best bargain was a pair of long leather riding boots i got for £10. so gullable. i think instead of moaning i should just stick to showing with my mum. she makes the best pack ups and happily grooms for me plus she doesnt stink of ale on a sunday morning.

Good on you. I would definitely vote for none horsey! At the end of the day when couples spend each and every minute together it is bound to, at some point, start to get too much. My equines are my escape if you like, my me time with children or on my own. I like it that way and dont want it any other way. He is coming down to Equifest this year, for an hour, if i need him!
