No, absolutely no, disrespect intended.
But. when you have been in a business, AND been successful IN THE SAME TRADE, for as many years as Robin Avery has, then any young upstart who didn't like his frank but probably factual comments, needs to go back to the Drawing Board,

Well, neither of them are known for being M&M Breeders and neither are on a Breed panel. But Mr Illesley has forgotten more than most people ever knew, has a fantastic, shrewd and quick eye for conformation and bred some super TB and TBx animals. Is highly respected.

I think this is getting a little bit personal now. Opinions on any judge will vary, some will like them, some won't. But I don't think sniping is getting us anywhere. Could we please just agree to differ?

really taffsmum you need to go and have a lie down, this is supposed to be a friendly forum and yes opinions do vary but i think you are now becoming very vindictive towards mr avery which i am sure the moderators are keeping an eye on. i have been in the position of winning and getting the highest conformation and ride mark , only to have if halved the following week by someone else, we discuss in the lorry on the way home and dont involve all and sundry then we decide if we want to go out again, the answer is always a resounding yes! thats showing !

I can honestly say that Mr Illsey is one of the best judges to step into a ring IMO, he likes what he likes, is very consistent and loves a mover. He never judges the people stood behind as a pony and as a home produced person I love him. I am biased as he loved our SRT and had her win many times no matter who was in the class.

Sallie, you are right, one of Mr Illesley's daughters (Ruth) did ride for the Gilbert Scotts, way back in the 70's. She is now a good judge in her own right (Mrs R Newman). The other Illesley daughter, Jane, also showed ponies very successfully.
And yes, I do judge! Based up north.

I have always found mr Illesley to be a fair straight judge. He likes what he likes but agree usually likes a mover and good bone - clean limbs as well. Having said that (and i do agree he is a good judge) i was a little dissapointed when at a recent qualifier he only looked at one side of my pony in the strip faze and not through the front legs. Hickstead is a lovely show though so go and have a fun.

anybody know of Mrs J Higson ( Lancashire) & Mrs T Monaghan – Hulatt (Bedfordshire) for srts?? We watched Mrs Higson at Windsor where the Deanhills 128 was miles better than anything else on the day but was not even considered for the championship so maybe worth avoiding at a big show. Have been under her and also watched her classes when not competing and I also find her judging difficult to follow

If mrs fluck and mr illesley are judging the m&m s i will put my weeks wage on hollings being in the top 3...

neddies which class are you referring to and top 3 is not necessarily 1st what are you implying that Mrs Fluck is facey or Mr Illsey as I find the latter very fair.

As I have said previously, (IMO) Mr Illesley is a cracking good judge of any horse/pony.

oh here we go again...neddies just can't help it can you.! why do you dislike us so much? I have pm'd you several times but you just don't have the guts to reply. Speaks volumes why you still hide behind your moniker. Now if you really think I should enter under these judges then do tell where they are judging....which ponies should I take....perhaps I should ask your advice in future before entering any future shows lol!

just maybe the hollings ponies are good enough to always stand in the first 3 ----- they are always presented rather well in the ring and the way the bigger ponies go is just fab
just my humble opinion

Sallie, you are possibly correct. The horrid green-eyed monster always comes out to play during the main summer showing season!!
Bit like midges and the horse-fly.
Sometimes more venemous...........

Penny post a list of your ponies to the people with green eyes, then they can tell you which ones to take in which class and under which judge, we can all pre judge on the internet many classes not aways as people predict, but these people dont see the hard work goes on behind closed doors.

Had some lovely judging at Hambleton by Mr Parker Jones - His final line up was nothing like the pull in and have to say he rewarded all the ponies that did a good show. The ground wasnt the best so a lot of the ponies were making little blips in their shows. What a lovely judge!

I have sat back for while now and watched with some amusement at some of the comments. Neddies if you can not take the heat stay out of the kitchen. I have judged the hollings and had them first and last, both they have taken in their stride. As with anyone, if I like a horse or pony they have to go well, no matter who produces them or who they belong too.
