Philip Hilton likes a good stamp with a leg in each corner. Also a good gallop, not scrambled extension. Mr Sharpley likes his friends

does anyone have any views on the show hunter ponies for HOYS this year? One would hope that because of obvious connections none of the blatantly 'BIG' ones should be in with a shout. Did anyone watch the SHP champ at Cheshire? It actually looked like there were 3 poss 15 hh!

Mr Hilton seems to like proper ponies - manners are very important to him. A correct pony with a leg at each corner and a real child's pony - the sort who have been ridden in for 2 hours by an adult probably wouldn't be his thing.

As for Mr Sharpley, I'm with Hunter and Overbent. He's very knowledgable and we have always felt him to be very fair. A wise man, a gentleman and an excellent co-judge, too! He has forgotton more than most will ever learn, so criticism of those with his sort of experience could really only come (if at all) from his peers. Furthermore, I feel that so many who have only been showing, or indeed in horses, for "five minutes"- need to think a little longer before casting rude criticisms about anyone with real experience, Judges or not.

Hopper Cavendish - has been MFH, super rider, diminutive, sticks on well. Needs to see genuine 4-square correct animal. Not swayed by superficial bling!

Both Hopper Cavendish and Jon Trice-Rolph very experienced riders themselves and will see through any tricks! If you win under them, it's because you deserve to.

Has anybody ever heard of a "Mr D Hounsham"? He is judging at an unaffiliated show I am thinking about going to. Thanks

If its Hounsom it could be Mr Hounsom from the Coveham Stud in Sussex (I think). They have bred some beautiful ponies and he is a very nice person.

That'll be Denis Hounsham of the Weydown Stud, in Hampshire.

Thanks Roseview & Penny H.
He is doing the ridden X racehorse & RH/Hack. Do you think he will ride them?
Do you think he will prefer a bigger NH horse or a smaller sprint type horse?

I wouldn't think he would ride as he is Welsh Section B breeder.
