Oooo what a pleaseing sight dun4u fat pony on match stick legs (don't think so) do you not agree that the ponies that where winning RP classes 20yrs ago would know be classed as hunter ponies, and some of todays ponies would be classed as blood weeds

Good judgeing today. Our pony behaved like a prat and was placed last!! Manners mattered this week but THAT I can handle.

I'm afraid I go even further back - as far as Ardencaple and Pretty Polly - and top ponies with Kavora, Criban and Arden prefixes - all with bone, quality AND manners! More recently the Bennochy ponies could show these today a thing or two. Going up a few inches, some of the hacks today, IMO, would have been classed as Riding Horses 40 years ago. Except, perhaps, John Keen's which I think are the ultimate hack. Only my opinion, of course, we all have favourites!!

I have been told that if i had bathed my pony we might have been placed - he is a grey roan and she mistook his slight chestnut hairs for dirt! Ignorant or what!
A child on the lead rein was pulled in second in between my two children the pony reared, lead rein was attached to bit and child fell off although a local show the BSPS reg judge said 'oh well i hate these classes and no one is looking just get back on!'
At Hadleigh Show a pony that was pulled in 6th suddenly was put 2nd and his sister (pulled 9th)4th because the judge realised at the last minute that she knew them!
My final moan to all you judges - if we are not placed in the line up please at least place the class and don't just say 'oh the rest of you can go anywhere you like' we have paid the same entrance fee as the professionals and have tried our hearts out my lead rein children don't understand why the judge is not bothering with their precious pony.

ruby, when I'm judging LR and even First Ridden, I always try to place those further down the line and have a chat with them all when I hand them those precious SPECIALS which I always insist (with the organisers) that they have. But it is heartbreaking to have to pull the very last one in, in final position and unless it has been really naughty, there's not a lot I can say to cheer them up, when they have probably tried so hard but just have not quite got it right.
As for your comment about the LR Judge - I think I would have torn her to shreds if I had been there, even as a non-showing spectator!!!

Hi maiseblu, yes Hadleigh ws very interesting! looking at the schedule i thought we had plenty of time so when 2 classes before us went in I started to tack up...by the time it was our class I only just got in the ring without being eliminated (one little girl did). the judge didn't bother to watch all of our first trot or all of our ind. show before moving on to the next 'punter'!

[This is happening all the time!! At Bath and West, the winner of one of the coloured classes wrong legged it twice, napped on more then one occasion, when the judge got off she promptly said to its rider "oh don't worry, that was my fault"!! It still won the class. How can you compete with that.

Well I went to watch a friend's daughter at a show on Saturday and her pony went fab, in one of her classes there were 3 in and the she was pulled in 2nd after the go round - 1st did their show and cantered on the wrong leg all the way round on both reins, my friend's daughter then did her show and didn't put a foot wrong, 3rd then did their show and only cantered on one rein. The judge after the shows left the line up as it was - when questioned why the line up had not been changed due to mistakes the reply - as canter was optional she wasn't bothered that the pony who won went round on the wrong leg - but IMO if you do chose to canter it should be on the correct leg! Judge also said she would understand if it was at affiliated level!! There are only 4 of these shows throughout the country. I know people at local level that have lost any placing because of this! My point being why pay an instructor for private lessons to make sure everything is done correctly etc and then go to a show do it correctly and get marked down for it? ?!!!!! The pony that won was very nice etc but made a mistake!! Sometimes I really don't understand Judges.

have to say that i think most judges try to be fair, and do it for little or no money, can't think why they would bother holding a grudge show after show. Perhaps yours was just not quite the same standard as the others. Don't think I would bother competing under a judge that didn't think liked my pony, save your money and go under someone else! Mind you, been under judges who I thought loved my ponies and been bottom of the line another time, which shows me its the other competition on the day too that can make or break a class. or I could just say ''oh that judge is soo facey'' but realistically we are never in the same league as t he pros so I'm just happy if we had a nice day, ponies and children behaved and did what they were supposed too. After all with entries and prize money the way they are we are never going to get rich.
