I know a bit about charities - charities who do not comply with their mission status can be reported to the charity commission. Charities have to spend a certain amount of their income on charitable activities. The WPCS also have charitable status. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Perhaps it is time to question whether the RSPCA should have charitable status and to ask awkward questions as to what they spend the donations they receive on and to point out that the people who donate do so in the belief that the money will be spent on animal welfare and not on plush offices and self publication. Bunch of publicity wh**es

The charitable aspect definitely needs a magnifying glass put on it plus a media spotlight

I have been following this thread, as many others with great intrest and so pleased that people are actually making a stand for something to be done. I hope its ok but i have sent emails to the wpcs of america, the wpcs of canada, the wpcs of australia and the wpcs of new zealand. ihave given them links to this thread, the fb page and also the sunwillow stud homepage as i think that the picture on there says it all. I dont suppose the societies i have contacted can actually do anything but maybe the wpcs will realise that it is not a matter that can be swept under the carpet as the eyes of the world are on them

I would definitely keep this and the other forums out in the open. Let them read how negligent they have been! As I said, we are starting to put together a core group which will begin the hands on work of putting together a charitable foundation. This core group could be the leaders in terms of information flow out to the FB and forums which would provide a better coordination. We are looking for one or two more to join us. ps I was half joking when I said the WPCS could provide us an office within their new premises...

on the overbreeding issue is there anyway a scheme could be set up to encourage breeders to geld their colts. not every colt foal that is bred is stallion material and surely it would be in the breeders best intrest to geld the ones that are not up to scratch before they sell them, after all these animals are carrying their prefixes and surely better to have a good gelding than a medioaka stallion, it would also help to keep the best bloodlines. expensive i know and foals at weaning are a bit young but surely something could be done to encourage people. there are already highest placed gelding awards at some shows but could more be done to promote them

i think geldings who promote the breed should have their own class thus making geldings marketable a special rosette is not much fun halfway down the line its like a concellation prize afterall geldings do showcase the breed give them their own class and champs!!!!

Sorry but Im not sure I get this whole charitable trust 'save the welsh pony' No one will put their neck on the line and pay out for something that should already be provided.
Quite simple, the WPCS need to urgently review and revise the role of the welfare committee, it needs a clear statement of purpose and policy to operate under. This should cover reporting and assisting staturory organisations in investigating alleged cruelty, supporting members in difficult circumstaces, acceptable standars at sales and finally educating members.

I too have been following this thread with great interest & am so pleased this issue may finally get the attention it deserves. Just an idea on the charity side of it, it would be really good if you could get assistance of vets across the country in order to aim for reduction of castration prices. I think people would be more inclined to purchase colts if they knew the cost of castration wouldn't outway their purchase price. Personally I've saved 13 colts over the past 5 years from sales and had all castrated and will all remain with me but at £135 each for castration from my local practise its something that has to be factored into the cost of purchasing an inexpensive colt who isn't upto scratch to run on. The likes of dogs trust used to offer nuetering vouchers (don't know if they still do) but something on the lines of that I think would reduce the number of substandard colts covering mares. I know of people not bothering to licence knowing they can just register as a part bred just in order to make a few pound the following year on thr foal. That kind of irresponsible behaviour needs to change. Regular mass castration days heavily discounted local to sale venues may be an idea.

Well I am having serious thought about the WPC getting my membership again , I find it very difficult to support a society who seemingly has no regard for the animals that they are supposed to uphold and respect.

A couple of years back a WPCS member sent a complaint to the Society because one of the staff from the finance department had intentionally or unintentionally misled the members at the AGM. The result of her complaint was that society took away her membership until she apologised for bring the Society into disrepute. Which she obviously had not. The person concerned had to take to the Society to the High Court to get her membership back. This was at great deal cost to the Society.
We now have a member who through his actions allowing the Cricceth ponies to be sold at a Society Official sale, has very publicly embarrassed the Society and brought it into public disrepute; I do hope that he is going to be disciplined. Or as we suspect, how you are treated by the society depends on who you are and who you have done favours for. Is discrimination just another of the things wrong in the Society.
Another observation and question is why have a Society Welfare Officer if he does nothing when there is a welfare problem and why have a Society Vet if he is not in attendance at the official sale. Where welfare is concerned lip service in not acceptable.
We have been told the RSPCA are going to Cricceth stud on Tuesday, when it is a fair bet that there will little or nothing they will be able to do. Would it achieve more if they contacted the purchases of the very poor condition mare and inspected her before the new owner loving care and attend bring her back to full health. This mare is the evidence of the neglect.

Thank you Pippard for the great input! It would be helpful I think if we could start to track down some of the purchasers of the ponies at last weeks sale to document the sales condition they were in immediately

I know of a couple of Purchasers but I think maybe with all this outcry they are keeping very quiet about their new additions. I could send a pm to both to ask how they feel about making an input if that would help?

Thank you Pippard for the great input! It would be helpful I think if we could start to track down some of the purchasers of the ponies at last weeks sale to document the sales condition they were in immediately Think there just needs to be a bit of co-ordination as this may be a delicate issue with many buyers and wouldnt want buyers to now get bombarded with loads of emails and messages from many different people - all well meaning - but perhaps email : pony@royalwelsh.net who will perhaps co-ordinate the 'gentle' contact with buyers of these ponies.

From the details I wrote in my catalogue the ones we need to find are lots 276 (who we all know about) 312 (Mel) whose nose was caked with thick discharge 316 (Lareena) who had a weepy eye and looked very dejected 307 (Melica) 397 (Mylo) 329 (not named in catalogue) who all had cuts/scrapes on their faces .
Then of course ANY of the lots feet and ANY who had obviously wormy bellies though of course the new owners would have had to do a worm count on the day of the sale to have any proof.
On another note - I have been thinking all along that by buying a Criccieth pony we just line his pocket so I have avoided doing it. HOWEVER I now think that if they are offered for sale at another public auction we could have a group action so that we could buy some without bidding against each other (so keeping prices right down) Then when we get them home have an immediate vet examination by our own vet and ask for a written report. Worm count immediately (with vet present to prove the sample was from the pony in question). This would then be hard evidence.
I am prepared to do this because I have the land and I can afford it. Maybe anyone else who could do this would be willing to do the same.
Some people have also mentioned the fact that some people more local to the stud have been quiet. Please will you understand that some have very genuine fears why they don't want to but it doesn't mean they don't fully support what is being said. I don't want to say more about that.
A question about WPCS membership. Is there any way we can find out from here FB etc the numbers of members who are supporting action against Criccieth. Then find out what proportion that is to the total membership. If the percentage is high enough then we should use our voting powers in future elections. In my opinion we really need to improve the welfare provision at the WPCS and it will need a lot of work and comittment over a prolongued period of time. I do believe that with the right people it can be done, using the Welsh Assembly and the Welfare act.

Dr Wynne Davies report of the sale on the WPCS website states
"Also sold on the same day, but not part of the official WP&CS sale were 45 section A's from the Criccieth stud."
Brightwells sale report lists 13 sold.
What happened to the other 32 ??

WPCS ban some and not others, I know of one person who was banned from keeping animals for 10yrs by courts (through Rspca) and yet is a member of Wpcs and still shows because all the ponies are now in the family name yet all kept at their home, where that person has access to the ponies, it's not what you know but who!

In the light of pippard’s post no 870 and other similar posts -
If as I do, you members of the WPCS feel that your Association and in particular its officers are not tending to the welfare of the breed and that there are questions being raised.
Then you are well within your rights to call an Extraordinary General Meeting at any time with a view to giving a written vote of no confidence in all or any particular officers / members of your council.
This motion of no confidence must then be voted on either by postal vote of the members or by members present.
If carried the officers to whom the vote of no confidence applies must stand down from office whether they want to or not.
You will need a certain number of your membership to call an Extraordinary General Meeting – try your constitution it should tell you this. I think a letter to your General Secretary may be the answer, if he or she is impartial and fair.
This method has certainly worked in other organisations where the Officials are ‘too cosy and comfortable’ where they have forgotten the Societies aims and objects and that it is the membership that has voted them in.
The membership does have a voice – to stop more suffering please use it!

Hello all - I have, for now, began to organise and co-ordinate efforts so things are managed more effectively. In reference to contacting buyers - please contact me, either by pm or jadecannon@hotmail.com if you know particular buyers of lots - I do not require the contact details - simply the confirmation of who is contacting who and to ensure people are not over contacted!

Dr W.D. at the beginning of his sale report says "of the 203 Welsh ponies etc etc - 149 were sold"
Why would he say 45 Criccieth ponies were sold if only 13 were sold ?
The question still remains - What happened to the other 32 ?

Well Done All, some excellent points above, keep up the hard work. People power can uncover the disgusting treatment that has been kept under wraps for so long.....and let's not forget that not all of the WPCS are corrupt, they are just gagged.....
For those of the WPCS, RSPCA and others that are watching and reading........WE ARE COMING FOR YOU......TIME FOR CHANGE
