I agree - this little dog was and still is a legend. I wonder if she had a very special job to do in life ? Now that job is nearly done - she needs to go and do another very special job in Heaven? I think she was an "angel" for you and John xxxx

Bless you - I have often called her "my little angel".
Anyone who knows me would say that I'm not usually a soppy prat and many refer to me as 'professional' and 'hard'. Which is, of course, a veneer.
But soft, hard or not, little Teazle touched the hearts of everyone who met her. Right now there is a great gaping hole in my heart.

I was lucky enough to spend some time with Teazle and see the wonderful bond that she had with John and the joy she gave both John and Caroline- she was so special almost human she seemed to understand everything that ws said to her. Life is so very very unfair sometimes and has no reason as many people on here know xxx

With the help of the head groundsman, Teazle was laid to rest on 18th January 2012 at the Kelso (Border Union Agricultural Show) Showground. Shows being her favourite places of all to attend - and this lovely local showground also being a special walking spot for us all.
Perhaps the most difficult thing I have ever had to do and at the most difficult of times.
Goodnight, my darling, darling little doggy. xxxxxxxxxxxx

Teazle, today is your fourth Birthday. At least you are at a "show" - a showground. Bless you xxx
Today I have written a report of the vet's consultation as it has transpired that vet made an incorrect diagnosis.
My gut hurts, just as much as yours must have done. You had an impaction in the small intestine. With speedy and vigorous antibiotic therapy and an operation, you might, just might, be recovering now.

R I P little Teazle in a place that you loved.
Caroline, so sorry. An incorrect diagnosis - how awful, and how very sad.
Don't really know what to say. Words seem so inadequate somehow. Sympathy and hugs. xx

I feel so humble making a post at all, but follow the thread about John (and so many others) and cannot find words to say how sorry I am to hear of the very too soon loss of Teazle. God give you strengthe Caroline to face the day to day problems you face. Hope all goes well with your lambing, that Phoebe helps you through and that John rallies on....bless you xx It is my sisters birthday today...she would have been 67 but has been gone for 10 years now. My brother followed her 2 years later at only 60. I do not think for a moment that I know what you are going through but I have a feeling... like so many on here, we have al lost so much....sorry for rambling on x

Thank you for your lovely words of kindness and compassion. This is really Teazle's thread but has become a bit distorted. Teazle would't have minded one bit; she was the most understanding and gentle dog I've ever known. To see her in the hospice not only with John (her 'daddy' but with numerous other, very elderly Dementia patients was a salutary lesson in patience and genuine unconditional canine love. They would become calm in her presence. As simple as that.

As a very sad (but very proud) mummy, I've just noticed how many hits Teazle provoked. Bless you, my dearest, cleverest, littlest long doggy.
xxxx (one x for each year of your short but wonderful life).

With the Lab. report back and a full discussion with a very senior vet from the Practice, it seems that my dear brave, stoic, trusting Teazle was in fact, her own worst enemy.
It is fair to say that she never once showed any sign of real pain, yelped when she was picked up and in particular, when her tummy was palpated by the vet.
Yet, all this time, her small intestine was effectively disintergrating. She bravely masked her pain even from me.
Which is why what should have been obvious symptoms were not at all obvious.
Apparently, she must have felt the pain, felt the changes (maybe in the same way that we feel crippling pain with gall stones).
I feel awful about it all over again.
Bless you, brave little Teazle xxx

Caroline don't!
You gave her care and love, but you are not a soothsayer. There was nothing more you could do.
Please don't beat your self up over it. I know it's what we all do, but please, be kind to yourself. It wasn't your fault.

..thank you. You have touched me with your very quick response. But why, why, WHY didn't she tell me she really hurt? She was so brave and at that time I was, by necessity, so wrapped up in the d**ned Suffolks. Not that it's their fault. She knew when mummy was busy, she knew to keep calm to keep me calm. I just wish she'd wimpered or yelped, even just once - then I could have really laid it on the line to the junior vet that we really had a problem and they might have been able to remove the damaged gut..

Sometimes deterioration can take place a lot quicker than we think possible, and , just like my little Scottie (also a very stoical little person), before we know, its too late. He didn't show in pain either, and I wasn't quick enough before his veins started to close down......... my regret.
Empathy, and sympathy Caroline. xx

It is so easy to do our"if buts and whys" and we all cringe in fear that '''''if only'.. we do our best for out pets/friends, but if only they could talk and tell us where it hurts. we have to remember that we have done the best that we can for them and couldnt have done anymore. I know we ache inside loosing the closest friends, but always remember the good times and smile knowing that they loved you.........................

Thanks, both. xx
As the senior and very respected Vet said - his profession differs so very much from the human medical profession, in that the human patient can go to his GP and say"it hurts right here doc" - and point to the spot.
Teazle trusted so much that I think she expected me to KNOW that spot - and that is where I feel (no, I know) I failed her.
And I feel gutted. I let her down.

Not in our gift to be perfect, although many of us try our d**nedest to be just that where our animals are concerned.
Sheep I feel, are the great levellers.

Caroline - Please dont blame yourself. Its negative energy being wasted. You need all your strenght to be strong for John.
I really believe Teazle passing is all part of a much bigger plan. One day you will be together again xxx
