Olympia Champion whilst going novicey with a buck, a wrong leg canter and failure to gallop in its show, sent a strong message to all competitors that your dreams they really can come true when lady luck is on your side.
This judge sent a very strong message yesterday that the competition is clearly open to amateurs as he consistently placed some of the country's top ponies and top producers down the line in favour of a new face.
Worker supreme looked to be a gorgeous Connemara, from the North of Scotland.

Agree Horace, we are amatuers too. Didn't say folks did not complain but only positive thought from the day is that even when a combination has not performed well, it can still qualify to represent it's breed at the top performace show in the country.

Surely though the ponies who did perform well ought to go through? Isnt that the whole point of the competition? It is, as you say, all about performance

Uggy, I quite agree. So did everyone else at Strathallan yesterday but the rider, Debbie Chadwick from Lancashire was truly delighted to be going to Olympia.

So its ok for a pony to qualify going badly as long as its ridden by an amateur? If a producers pony had gone like that everyone would complain, and i am an amateur.

Horace, you are right, everyone would complain if a professional or fellow judge got a coveted ticket on a novicy performace for such a prestigious final, amatuers should not receive any favour or positive discrimination either.
Cant comment on what the judge was thinking but can only say what the eyes saw on the day, never said it was all right. Many top class ponies in the in each class, going foot perfect, looking sensational, ridden exceptionally well by both amateurs and professionals. Mr Avery had plenty of quality performances to choose from on the day, amatuer and professional alike.
Notherer, more details please, interested now.

This isn't a case of here we go again. I think you will find that Ms Chadwick is a very close friend of Mr Avery, which bear in mind isn't the problem. It becomes a problem when friends clearly haven't done the best show and get unfairly rewarded for this. Then again if you where to follow Mr Avery's results at a lot of shows at varying levels then you would see the same facey pathetic pattern happening all the time, it's called keeping one another in a job.

Im not sure whether one would class Debbie Chadwick as an amateur. She is not a producer as far as I know but she is a breeder and is a judge of ridden M&Ms and Coloureds. She is a very good friend of Robin Avery's, has judged his ponies and probably will do again, and I think that explains why she got the ticket despite a very poor and novicey performance in the ring. It really beggars belief IMO.
