Glad Im not going senile in my old age but was thinking that a lot of the As looked like they were about to have foals they were so big only to realise it was the barren mare class I was looking at. Now watching the C classes ( Ive Sky+ it) and loving what Im seeing. Do they have a an adult Gelding inhand class?

The A youngstock are tomorrow morning (Wednesday). There are record entries in the Ds and no foreign judge there, and also huge entries for A classes too. Lexy I thought the section A classes always had good entries.

A and D classes always huge. So no change there. Definately a lost oppurtunity in the B's. Chances are entries will drop again next year. Judging is reaching a crisis point whether In Hand or Ridden. Hopefully it will blow up and then things will change. One thing i can never understand is why people want to win for the sake of it??? Not for the fact they have a cracking pony. Where's the thrill in that??Some of these big studs wont even compete if it's not one of there judges. Us 'lesser mortals'?? carry on regardless. At a major show a couple years ago. The winner of the B's had according to the tannoy anouncement 'just pulled his pony in from the field' and boy did it look like it. Where would we be stood with a dirty pony?? However othe competitors in the line up could clearly hear the Judge saying 'let's get together for dinner again'.as she handed over rosette. Have they no shame??!?!!?!

Some of the people there looked like they expected to win, they didnt even crack a smile! i know alot of the ponies that are there have won alot before but forgods sake look a little excited that you've just won a class at a show that thousands of people could only dream of. I love watching when the people that win are really really thrilled and they are hugging their ponies and smiling for england it really cheers me up and i smile with them

I went yesterday and took part in the inter hunt competition, we were a flop and I was last to ride for our team. I ended up doing my round on my own as the other team had finished. The crowd was amazing so thank you to anyone who cheered for me and my little horse. I can say as i passed over the finishing line I had a huge grin on my face and murph was patted like mad. The other team then came over to say well done even though we had lost miserably. I hate it when people arent chuffed to win after all the work they've put in. I love my boy and was chuffed to bring a pink special rossette back from a show I went to every year when i was growing up. Its got pride of place
Being one with your horse and showing it of should be fun wether you win or not

Have they no shame??!?!!?!Listening to what people say, it sounds as though showing has reached crisis point already, not only in hand, but it appears the ridden has become more corrupt than ever. The importance of the well known, established breeders having to win at major shows, more so The Royal Welsh, is not only for the prestige, but as we all know it is a shop window for them to sell their stock. They often do have some good ponies, but that doesn't mean the best ponies are always winning. "Lesser mortals" might be there abouts, even win their class, but when it comes to the Championship, no matter how much a judge likes your pony, it can be almost impossible to beat them, especially at top level showing.

A bit late-but if anyone has booked a stable for tomorrow night(Wed)-take your own bedding. At about 7pm, its a mad rush for bedding when it arrives.people are taking more than their fair share and last night I couldn't even put my boy on a clean bed.His stable wasn't vacated by previous users and by 8pm all the straw had gone. Lesson learned, I'll make sure I take my own bedding in future-but there isn't a place to buy it either.

What a sad day for B breeders worldwide to witness such random whimsical judging with no pattern or type and that in the wake of the judge pontificating on television that she wanted ponies that "really moved and screamed Welsh". The honour and responsibility that judging such a prestigious show carries can have a profound effect on the breeds development for many years that follow. It is depressing on many many fronts. I am dreading tomorrow's placings.

The honour and responsibility that judging such a prestigious show carries can have a profound effect on the breeds development for many years that follow. It is depressing on many many fronts. I am dreading tomorrow's placings. I couldn't agree more. A number of ponies at the top of the line couldn't move out of their own shadow!! The judge looked indecisive, confused and completely unqualified for the task of judging The Royal Welsh. Did she not move a pony she pulled in 2nd place down to the bottom of the line?

Have to say if I had had my B's judged on Monday - would definately not take them in on Wednesday. Wonder if anyone who has been judged (I use the term lightly) will not bother?? I had not heard interview with judge - BUT I personally couldn't see that she went for movement, in fact just the opposite, some were so badly behaved, didn't walk in a straight line let alone trot out. I can't see that these bigger studs gain anything by winning as they do. Most buyers have more sense and wouldn't buy just because a pony had won the royal welsh?? Buyers are more and more aware of getting a good pony not automatically thinking - 'it has won', so I'll pay a lot for it. I would always check who was running it or how many in class, any connection to judge etc etc. I think most of these studs do it for own ego - can't think of any other reason??

Regarding the B judge, I felt, for the first time in my life that I had a pony worth taking to the Royal Welsh this year. On hearing who was judging, I decided to keep my money and not go. Glad I did, her judging was appaling, why would I want to subject my medaled filly to that!! Oh and I did have insider information, a friend in the states warned me that she was 'nuts', no one over there goes under her anymore.

As mentioned before I decided not to waste my time and money showing under this woman, how can someone from a country where the upper height limit for Sec B's is 14.2 judge our beautiful 'ponies'. She wasn't interested in movement or looking at limbs. What I would like to know is who actually put her name forward ? Sadly situations like this will not change until there are no Welsh pony breeders on the RW Agricultural Committee!

Read with interest obviously this thread but also other thread on bad judging at Royal Welsh and there have been various threads through out the year. Maybe its time to make a stand. There is no rule that says we have to stand in line and put up with bent judging - well only the 'British stiff upper lip crap' If we are not going to do well under most judges - as seems the trend- STAND UP and be counted. Tell the judge politely: That a pony was lame, fat, you know they see each other socially, pony has capped hocks, stallion of pony owned by judge. Be more vocal at the time, YOU CAN BE VOCAL AND POLITE!!!!. Perhaps when they realise they can be called up on this 'cheating' they will cease to do it. Only takes one to start the ball rolling. Please note I am not encouraging rudeness. JUST giving your opinion to the judge so other competitors can hear. If we don't complain we wont get any where. The only place to complain is where it happens. IMO

Well i'm not too sure about the youngstock judging of the B's but watching now i think the judge is doing a good job of the broodmares some rlly nice ones being placed. Although, for those of you who are saying she doesn't place any good moving ones..have you watched the class? All the animals are so fat that none of them are moving well, i'm sure she would place a good moving pony if there were any!
And yes, the judge does have light sensitive eyes so she has to wear those glasses nearly all the time!
If i were you i would be far more worried by the judging in the D's, there are some nice animals but the judge is only too happy to place morbidly obese animals who dish badly and are terribly behaved! Not to mention how bad their handlers are! If they bothered running the pony up properly instead of spending their time watching it's legs then they might not all break into canter, one of the winners yesterday (colts) managed to win despite not trotting once during it's idividual!
